Hunter New England Local Health District is seeking Locum Orthopaedics SRMOs to provide surgical and orthopaedics support across regional hospital settings.
This role is suited to junior doctors wanting to strengthen their surgical skills, gain hands-on theatre experience and broaden their exposure to trauma and fracture management.
Flexible ad-hoc shifts are available throughout 2026, giving doctors the opportunity to fit locum work around existing commitments.
Clinical Environment
You will provide Orthopaedics SRMO cover in regional hospital settings within Hunter New England LHD.
- Hands-on surgical exposure – assist across orthopaedic theatres and fracture clinics
- Acute skills development – support trauma and fracture management across ED and inpatient settings
- Adaptable locum options – access ad-hoc shifts throughout the year to suit your roster
- Supportive supervision – work alongside registrars, consultants and experienced nursing teams
- Balanced case mix – gain exposure across ward, theatre and outpatient orthopaedics
Patient Demographic
You will support a broad orthopaedic patient mix, including trauma presentations, fracture clinic patients, surgical inpatients, post-operative patients and people requiring assessment, management planning, escalation or ongoing orthopaedic care.
Key Duties
- Provide Orthopaedics SRMO support across rostered shifts
- Assist with ward-based orthopaedic care and patient reviews
- Support theatre lists, fracture clinics and outpatient requirements as needed
- Assist with trauma and fracture management
- Complete clinical documentation and handover
- Escalate patient concerns appropriately to senior medical staff
Requirements
- Current AHPRA General Registration
- PGY3+ with previous surgical, orthopaedic or ED exposure desirable
- NSW Working with Children Check and Police Check
- Australian working rights
- Willingness to complete local credentialing and onboarding
- Current CV, references and compliance documents as required
