Southern NSW Local Health District is seeking a Locum ED SMO to provide Emergency Medicine cover at Cooma Hospital and Health Service.

This role is suited to an experienced Emergency Medicine doctor who is confident assessing and managing ED presentations, supporting clinical decision-making and escalating care appropriately when required.

There are 12 shifts available across October 2026, with shifts generally running 14:30 – 22:30.

Clinical Setting

You will provide Emergency Medicine cover in a regional hospital setting within Southern NSW LHD.

- ED SMO cover – support Emergency Medicine presentations across rostered shifts
- Regional hospital setting – work within Cooma Hospital and Health Service
- Afternoon and evening roster – shifts generally run 14:30 – 22:30
- October placement – shifts available between 1 October – 31 October 2026
- Supportive environment – work within an established hospital team with escalation pathways available

Patient Demographic

You will support a broad regional Emergency Department patient mix, including adults, older patients, families, acute medical presentations, trauma, minor injuries and patients requiring assessment, stabilisation, escalation or transfer.

Key Duties

- Assess and manage Emergency Department presentations
- Provide Emergency Medicine cover across rostered shifts
- Support clinical decision-making and patient flow
- Complete clinical documentation and handover
- Escalate care appropriately when required




- Work collaboratively with nursing, medical and hospital teams

Requirements

- Current AHPRA Registration
- Recent Emergency Medicine experience
- ED SMO-level experience
- Strong clinical judgement and communication skills
- Ability to work safely within scope and escalate appropriately
- Current CV, references and compliance documents as required
