Availability: Between 6am – 6pm
Hourly rates: $32.18/ hour and above (based on the Restaurant Industry Award)

Where the Role fits within Kyoto Matcha
As we welcome a new role within Kyoto Matcha, we seek a team member who embraces creativity and artistry when it comes to their work. As a Matcha Barista in Kyoto Matcha, you will play a vital role in supporting kitchen operations by assisting with food/drinks preparation, and ensuring the kitchen runs smoothly and efficiently. You will work closely with other Matcha Baristas and Specialists to uphold our standards of food safety, hygiene and food presentation.
We are seeking an enthusiastic Matcha Barista to join our newest specialty store, Kyoto Matcha, located at the new Townhall Station right in the middle of Melbourne CBD. This role is ideal for individuals who thrive in quick-paced environments and are passionate knowledgeable about their craft, as well as providing an exceptional customer experience. As a Matcha Barista, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks including drink preparation, maintaining cleanliness to the standard of Kyoto Matcha, customer service, cashier duties, cleaning, and assisting with stock management.
As well as being able to manage and safely operate necessary machinery and utensils. You’ll play a key role in maintaining the quality, efficiency, and friendly atmosphere our brand is known for, and most importantly,
using your skills to make this new role your own.
Customer Service
- Greet customers warmly and assist with menu selections or dietary inquiries.
- Take orders accurately and efficiently, offering recommendations when appropriate.
- Handle customer feedback or complaints professionally and escalate when necessary.
- Operate the EFTPOS system to process transactions.
- Ensure accurate cash handling and reconciliation at end-of-shift.
Food Preparation
- Creating a variety of matcha drinks with precision.
- Always follow food safety and hygiene standards.
- Preparing authentic Japanese matcha drinks to brand standards.
- Crafting matcha lattes, frappes, teas and specialty beverages.
- Maintaining consistency, quality and presentation.
- Providing friendly, efficient customer service.
- Maintaining a clean and organised workstation.
- Ensuring consistency in the matcha drink’s taste, texture, and presentation.
- Maintaining high standards of hygiene and food safety.
Inventory and Stock-take
- Duties include maintaining kitchen hygiene, checking pantry supplies, stocking up ingredients.
- Ensuring a smooth and speedy kitchen operations.
- Monitor stock levels and report shortages to the kitchen supervisor or direct manager.
Compliance & Safety:
- Adhere to food hygiene and safety standards according to DoFoodSafely and the Food Act 2006 (the Act).
- Report any OHS hazards or equipment issues to the kitchen supervisor or direct manager promptly.
Essential Selection Criteria:
· Has 1-3 years of experience as a matcha barista/ matcha specialist.
- Positive attitude, good communication skills and willing to learn.
- Creative flair and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and in a small team.
- Passion for Japanese flavours and craftsmanship.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
- Good understanding of food safety and hygiene practices.
- Physically fit and able to stand for long shift periods and lift moderate weights.
- Interest in expanding on a career in the hospitality industry.
- Must have eligibility to work in Australia.
Certifications to obtain prior to employment:
- Food Safety Certificate (mandatory)
- Food Safety Supervisor certificate (if any)
- First Aid certificate (if any)
