The Opportunity Malcolm Thompson Pumps (MTP) is looking for a Mechanical Design Draftsman who wants more than a routine drafting job. You'll own the full journey from concept to fabrication, designing detailed 2D and 3D models in SolidWorks, then watching your work come to life on the workshop floor.

There's also an exciting bonus to this role: opportunities to get hands-on with professional 3D laser scanning equipment, capturing real-world plant and equipment and turning point-cloud data into accurate, workable models. Prior experience here is a nice-to-have, not a must. If it's new to you, we'll support you to build the skill on the job.

What You'll Do
- Develop accurate 2D and 3D engineering models, assemblies and drawings using SolidWorks and AutoCAD
- Apply parametric modelling techniques to create flexible, easily modifiable designs




- Produce general arrangement drawings, detailed fabrication drawings, STEP files and Bills of Materials
- Manage manufacturing drawings, CAD models and revision control through SolidWorks PDM
- Support projects from initial scope through design, fabrication and quality inspection
- Work directly with fabricators and suppliers, including obtaining quotations and managing fabricated components
- Provide technical drawing support to workshop, service, branch and customer teams
- Prepare concept models and drawings to support tender proposals
- Ensure drawings and designs comply with relevant Australian and ISO standards
- Opportunity to get out from behind the desk: assist with 3D laser scanning and field data capture on-site, with training provided
- Opportunity to work with point-cloud data and downstream modelling as your skills develop

What You'll Bring
- Strong proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD
- Experience producing detailed 2D drawings and parametric 3D models
- A solid understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T;)
- Experience with manufacturing and fabrication drawings
- Strong spatial awareness and a sharp eye for detail
- Confidence communicating with engineers, machinists, fitters, sales teams, customers and fabricators

Nice to Have (Not Essential)
- Exposure to professional 3D laser scanning equipment and field data capture
- Familiarity with point-cloud registration or downstream modelling software
