About the role The Microscopy Application Specialist leads and drives technical application strategy and execution across ANZ, enabling the sales organisation through advanced technical expertise, solution design, and effective vendor coordination. It builds and improves scalable support systems and processes to drive consistency, efficiency, and visibility. The role also develops and delivers structured training programs while contributing market insights and technical expertise to directly influence commercial decisions and business outcomes.
The role acts as the recognised ANZ subject matter expert, supporting strategic opportunities, complex customer solutions, and product/application success across the region.
Key responsibilities
Application Support
- Deliver and coordinate technical application support for selected product lines, acting as a key contact for troubleshooting and resolution
- Provide hands-on support as needed, while escalating complex issues through structured engagement with internal teams and vendors
- Build and continuously improve scalable support systems, including ticketing, request tracking, and knowledge capture
- Establish clear workflows and service standards to ensure consistent, timely support across ANZ
- Support the shift from reactive to proactive, system-driven support to improve efficiency, visibility, and customer experience
3rd Party Vendor Management
- Support Sales Specialists with product information requests and liaise with 3rd party vendors for national solutions
- Participate in external product training by 3rd party manufacturers and assist in building competitor product analysis
- Own and approve third-party special pricing within delegated authority, ensuring alignment with margin and strategic objectives
- Plan and execute internal new product training sessions and create training structures aligned with competency standards
Training
- Collaboration with Sales Management on planning and implementation of new hire training

Strategic Planning
- Participating in selected Sales and Marketing Management meetings
- Provide actionable market insights that directly shape ANZ sales strategy, pricing, and portfolio focus.
- Collaborate with APAC marketing and ANZ Sales Management on strategic product planning
- Advises on marketing collaterals and product literature as a subject matter expert
- Act as technical lead on strategic opportunities, including tenders and key accounts.
- Influence win strategy, solution positioning, and competitive differentiation in high-value bids.
Commercial & Strategic Impact
- Directly contributes to revenue growth through technical leadership of opportunities and improved win rates.
- Materially influences pricing, tender outcomes, and strategic account success.
- Owns defined product, application, or solution outcomes across ANZ.
About you
- Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Physics, Life Sciences, or a related technical discipline preferred; complementary qualifications in Business or Commerce advantageous
- Practical experience in microscopy, imaging systems, or as a Field Service Engineer strongly preferred, with exposure to working in structured support environments (e.g., service systems, CRM, or sales/service operations) highly regarded
- Typically requires 8–12+ years of relevant experience in microscopy, imaging systems, or technical-commercial roles, including demonstrated ownership of complex customer solutions and strategic opportunities
- Solid technical aptitude with the ability to understand and communicate concepts related to optical and imaging systems
- Demonstrated experience in sales operations,
application support, or commercial roles with a strong process orientation
- Proven ability to design, implement, and continuously improve workflows, systems, and standard operating procedures
- Strong analytical capability with the ability to interpret technical and commercial data and translate insights into action
- High attention to detail with strong organisational discipline and ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities
- Proficiency in CRM systems and Microsoft Office (particularly Excel) to support reporting, tracking, and operational execution
- Robust communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders
