Primary objective

Provides expert skilled advice critical in dealing with significant issues related to assessment, planning, review, evaluation,

and coordination of client care in defined practice area.

Context statement The midwifery group practice (MGP) provides a high standard of contemporary midwifery care in a team/on call midwifery model.

MGP midwives work in small teams providing care co-ordination to women with pregnancies complicated by psychosocial and/or obstetric risk, as well as women planning a homebirth. There are five teams within the MGP and midwives will be required to provide collaborative care and support across all teams including home birth and maternity services within the division.

Key duties and responsibilities

- Provide expert clinical care, advice, and education for client group with diverse and/or complex care requirements in a defined practice area.
- Support delivery of excellence in nursing/midwifery care by modelling advanced knowledge, skills, and behaviours for the provision of client care and working alongside less experienced staff to develop appropriate skills, knowledge, abilities, and attitudes.
- Demonstrate NTH values - secure; responsive; kind – in all decision-making and interactions with consumers and colleagues.
- Follows defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.

Selection criteria

Essential

- Current registration with Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia or eligible for same
- Demonstrated advanced and extended clinical knowledge, skills, and experience in a relevant area of nursing/midwifery relating to this vacancy, supporting well-developed clinical decision-making and problem solving to achieve best practice healthcare outcomes.
- Demonstrated proficiency in the understanding, application,



analysis and interpretation of a professional body of knowledge to provide sound advice and inform practice change to optimise healthcare outcomes.
- Experience leading, supporting, and participating in quality assurance activities, clinical audits, clinical trials, and research to enhance effectiveness of client care.
- Demonstrated use of effective communication skills to maximise productive working relationships, and to persuade, influence and convince other senior staff, clients and communities including on sensitive matters requiring tact and diplomacy.
- Demonstrates and applies well-developed knowledge and understanding of the social and cultural issues, influences and sensitivities that influence health care provision for individuals and groups.

- Graduate Diploma, or equivalent, beyond entry to practice relevant to specialty area.
