An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Head of Finance / Financial Controller to join a large, complex ASX-listed Australian retail business for an initial six-month contract.

Reporting into the senior finance leadership team, this role will take ownership of the financial control and finance operations function, leading a large team across Accounting, Accounts Payable, Banking and Payroll.

This is a senior leadership role, but equally one for someone who is comfortable rolling up their sleeves. You will provide strong technical accounting leadership, ensure the integrity of the financial control environment and keep a sizeable finance operation running effectively through a busy period.

The Role:
You will have responsibility for the day-to-day leadership of the financial control and operational finance functions, including:

- Leading, developing and supporting a team across Accounting, AP, Banking and Payroll
- Owning the financial control environment and ensuring the integrity and accuracy of financial reporting
- Providing technical accounting guidance across the business
- Managing statutory, tax and regulatory compliance requirements
- Leading and supporting external audit and associated deliverables
- Overseeing risk, governance and compliance requirements, including preparing papers for senior leadership and relevant committees
- Supporting sustainability and associated reporting requirements
- Ensuring appropriate controls, processes and governance are embedded across finance
- Working closely with senior stakeholders across a large and complex organisation
- Identifying issues quickly, taking ownership and getting into the detail when required





About You
We are looking for an established finance leader who has run a financial control / finance operations function previously and can step into the role with confidence from day one.
You will ideally bring:

- Significant experience as a Head of Finance, Financial Controller, Group Financial Controller or similar
- A strong technical accounting background, ideally commencing your career within Big 4
- ASX-listed experience – this is critical
- Experience within a large, complex retail or FMCG environment
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting, technical accounting, tax, audit, risk and compliance
- Previous leadership of sizeable accounting and transactional finance teams
- The confidence and presence to operate with senior stakeholders while remaining genuinely hands-on
- A pragmatic approach and willingness to roll up your sleeves and support the team when needed
- CA/CPA qualification

The Opportunity
This is an excellent opportunity to join a high-profile Australian ASX-listed organisation and take ownership of a broad and important finance function.
The initial requirement is for six months, with an immediate start preferred. While the role can be structured on a full-time basis, the business is also open to considering an experienced senior finance leader looking for a part time / fractional arrangement.
