We’re looking for an experienced Payroll Officer to join a corporate farming business in Wagga Wagga on a part-time basis.

If you’ve got a love for the land, grew up around agriculture, have worked in an ag-based business or simply like the idea of being connected to something tangible, even better.

You’ll support around 70 permanent employees plus a casual workforce that changes throughout the year, managing payroll processing, onboarding and offboarding, employee changes, leave, superannuation, award interpretation and wage reconciliations.

You’ll answer questions from employees.

Provide guidance to managers.

And make sure everyone gets paid accurately and on time.

Simple in theory.

We all know payroll rarely is.

You’ll own the fortnightly and monthly payroll cycles, including PAYG, super, deductions and payroll tax, while also handling reconciliations, new starters, exits and the odd Services Australia query that lands on your desk.

You’ll also get involved beyond the pay run, supporting workers compensation calculations, annual reporting and payroll modelling when the business needs it.

So there’s enough variety to keep things engaging.

They’re looking for someone who knows their craft,



but also someone curious enough to ask questions, notice things and find a better way when one exists.

Your first few months will be about learning the business, the people and how everything fits together.

Then you can start making the role your own.

There’ll be opportunities to improve processes, contribute to projects and potentially broaden your exposure across HR, accounts and finance.

You’ll need payroll or relevant HR experience, a good understanding of awards, superannuation and leave entitlements, and you’ll need to be comfortable with Excel.

Above all, you’ll be accurate, accountable and proactive.

Because payroll isn’t exactly the place for a “close enough is good enough” attitude.

But technical ability is only half of it.

No big egos.

There may also be scope for additional hours as the team and workload evolve.
