The Position - Pharmacy Assistant
As Pharmacy Assistant, you will assist in the provision of pharmacy services to patients, external organisations, and other hospital caregivers by providing support to pharmacists and by providing a medication delivery service to clinical areas.
- Undertake the delivery of medications, including cytotoxic and schedule 8 medications to wards.
- Deliver pharmaceuticals requested by wards and departments and ensure proper stock rotation, and checking of expiry dates.
- Work closely with nurses to ensure timely and secure handover of medications.
- Collect and safely transport medication returns from the wards to Pharmacy.
- Repack bulk drugs into units of issue under the supervision of a pharmacist.
- Ensure proper stock rotation and checking of expiry dates.
- Undertake regular cleaning, and maintenance of equipment including defrosting drug storage refrigerators.
- Assist with the recycling of drugs returned from wards and departments including patient’s own drugs.
- Assist with the recovery of owing prescriptions according to pharmacy procedures.
- Provide relief for Pharmacy Reception as required.
- Assist other support caregivers with their duties as required and requested by the Chief Pharmacist or Pharmacist Coordinators.
- Maintain privacy of patients.
- Understand role in an emergency and follow direction of the Manager / Supervisor.
- Contribute to an productive discharge process.
- Demonstrate a courteous manner to all patients and caregivers.
- Act in the position of Pharmacy Technician as required.
- All other reasonable duties as directed by your Manager/Supervisor
