Our client is a large Federal government department who delivers services across a broad national portfolio.
The department is continuing to invest in its financial systems, in line with the broader APS shift towards more flexible, market-driven ERP arrangements.
You’ll report to the Director of Financial Systems, provide advice on the financial system’s strategic direction. It’s offered as a labour hire contract at a competitive hourly rate, with the flexibility that comes with contracting.
You’ll have access to:
- Competitive hourly rates for EL1-level SAP specialist labour hire contracts
- Non-ongoing opportunities or S26 permanent transfer considerations for the right person
- Autonomy to prioritise and shape continuous improvement across financial processes
- Broad exposure across Governance, Risk and Compliance and the wider Finance Division
- Hybrid working arrangements, including two WFH days
The Role
This role leads the Systems Accounting team and provides advice on the department’s SAP financial system.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing strong leadership to the Systems Accounting team and advise the Director on the strategic direction of the financial system
- Preparing complex advice on financial systems accounting practices and operational impacts, and lead continuous improvement initiativesAnalysing changes and projects affecting the financial system and ensure financial control risks are identified and managed
- Maintaining and developing expertise in accounting standards and financial systems
- Anticipating and managing the impact of changes in Government and Departmental processes on the financial system
- Managing or undertaking ad hoc troubleshooting of accounting or financial system issues
- Working collaboratively with other teams in the section to share skills and build commitment to shared goals
The Ideal Person
You're an experienced Systems Accountant or SAP specialist, whether your background is in government or consulting, who can lead a small team while staying hands-on with the detail.
You will bring the following skills and experience:
- SAP expertise, including experience with financial modules
- Robust project management skills and experience
- Analytical skills to understand business issues and weigh up options objectively
- Experience implementing financial system (SAP) changes and related business process changes
- Experience managing competing stakeholder needs to reach an agreed solution
Our ideal candidate will also come from one of the following backgrounds:
- A Senior Consultant or Manager working in a consulting firm, specialising in SAP implementation and engaging with government clients on SAP administration and financial systems
- An experienced EL1 Financial Analyst or Financial Administrator specialising in SAP and working within a Federal Government department
It’s also desirable if you have:
- A bachelor or higher degree in finance, accounting, data science, information technology or a related field
- CA or CPA qualification
Salary / Rate
- $95/hr - $120/hr + Super
- Hybrid working arrangements, including two WFH days
