What is the Role?

The Economic Regulation Authority is seeking an experienced and motivated Principal Analyst to join the Energy Markets team on a permanent basis.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a leading role that contributes to the regular functions of the ERA – such as the determination of price ceilings and the Benchmark Reserve Capacity Prices (BRCP), and the determination of AEMO’s Allowable Revenue – as well as conducting analysis on how effectively the market and regulatory structures are functioning.

As the Principal Analyst, you will lead and manage projects that determine key fundamentals of the WEM, such as price ceilings and the BRCP. You will undertake research and analysis, oversee the development and review of market behaviour and market structures, prepare reports and training materials to support actionable insights, and contribute to the continuous improvement of regulatory processes.

You will prepare high-quality recommendations and decision reports to senior staff and the Governing Body and provides advice to internal and external stakeholders.

To be successful in this role, you will bring a strong background in economics, quantitative analysis and problem-solving, ideally within the energy sector. You will thrive on solving complex market, regulatory and policy challenges, using data-driven insights to influence decision-making and deliver meaningful outcomes.

you will be able to translate complex information into transparent, actionable insights, build trusted relationships, and lead people and resources to deliver strategic outcomes.
