The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Workshop Technician to join our Laverton North team.
This is a senior hands-on position suited to a skilled mechanical tradesperson who enjoys technical work while helping to coordinate and support other workshop staff. You'll play a key role in maintaining workshop efficiency, monitoring job progress, sharing your knowledge, and ensuring work is completed to the highest standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose, repair, assemble and rebuild heavy vehicle steering systems and components
- Perform mechanical repairs, fault finding and workshop-based service work
- Support daily workshop operations and workflow coordination
- Assist with allocating jobs and monitoring work progress
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to apprentices and fellow technicians
- Conduct quality inspections and final checks on completed work
- Help maintain workshop productivity, housekeeping and safety standards
- Liaise with customers and suppliers when required
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the workshop
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Trade qualification in Diesel Mechanics, Fitting & Turning, Hydraulics or a related mechanical trade
- Strong mechanical aptitude and diagnostic skills
- Previous workshop experience within automotive, heavy vehicle, transport or industrial sectors
- Experience supporting, guiding or coordinating other team members
- The ability to monitor workflow and help ensure jobs are completed efficiently and to a high standard
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- A commitment to quality workmanship and workplace safety
Desirable but not essential:
- Experience with heavy vehicle steering systems, hydraulics or related components
- Heavy vehicle licence
- Forklift licence
- Machining or manual lathe experience
