Recruitment LABS
Sandringham
Location: Sandringham, VIC
Hours: 22.5 hours per week, ideally across 5 days
Salary: $124,000 + Superannuation FTE (pro-rata for actual hours)
Industry: Single-Family Office (typical mix of property, commercial assets, investments)
Preferred Background: Family office or HNW advisory exposure, or chartered accounting dealing with complex private clients
The Opportunity
This is exactly the kind of part-time finance role people are usually hoping exists, but rarely find. A lot claim to offer ownership, input and commercial flair, but in reality they turn out to be bookkeeping roles in disguise. Invoicing, payments, reconciliations… rinse and repeat.
This one is different.
You will join a small single-family office based in Sandringham, working closely with the family principal to help manage, improve, and bring structure to the family's financial, property, and governance affairs.
You will bring better clarity to the numbers, structure to the governance, and a steady hand to the advisers. You'll sit close to the decisions and play an integral part in board packs, adviser recommendations, capital planning and family communication.
This will suit someone who wants to stay commercially engaged, use their finance and analytical skills properly, work close to home, and be involved in more than month-end, invoices, and reconciliations.
For the right person, this is a trusted seat and a long-term home; the kind of role where, over time, you become something close to, well, "family".
Role Profile
This is a small office, so the role will be hands-on. You will need to be comfortable moving between detailed financial work, adviser coordination, board reporting, property analysis and practical administration when required. There is no large finance team sitting behind you, but there is also no corporate machine slowing everything down. Your remit will cover:
- Monthly and quarterly reporting across the family's entities, trusts, property interests and investment structures. Bringing clarity to balances, loans,
inter-entity accounts and cash positions.
- Preparing and coordinating quarterly family board packs, pulling together financial, property, investment and adviser inputs.
- Analysis and modelling across property, cash flow, capex, lease renewals, valuations and due diligence.
- Acting as the internal point of contact for external advisers across accounting, tax, super, estate planning, investment and property, and making sure their recommendations actually get actioned, not filed.
- Supporting governance rhythms across board calendars, agendas, documentation, policies, ASIC, insurance and tax deadlines.
- Improving systems and reporting so the office has genuine visibility and is less reliant on individuals and third-party tools.
Successful Candidate Profile
You might be coming from a single or multi-family office, a private client or HNW advisory team, a chartered firm with family group and trust exposure, or a hands-on Finance Manager / Company Accountant role in a multi-entity property or investment environment. What matters to us more than the title is that you possess:
- Strong reporting & analytical skills and the ability to take complex, messy information and make it decision-ready.
- Real experience across multiple entities, trusts and private group structures.
- Judgement and discretion. You'll see sensitive financial, property and personal information, and the family needs to trust you completely.
- The confidence to run external advisers rather than just relay their advice.
- A forward-looking, organised style, staying ahead of deadlines rather than chasing them.
- CA/CPA or equivalent hands-on capability.
Commercial property exposure (lease renewals, valuations, capex, portfolio reporting, due diligence) will be highly regarded. Family office experience is excellent but not the only route in; a strong private client accountant who understands HNW families, structures and discretion will fit well.
The Part-Time Piece
This is a genuine part-time role, not a full-time job squeezed awkwardly into half the time.
It could be perfect for a mum looking for school hours across five days, close to home and in a lovely part of Bayside. It could just as easily suit a semi-retired CA winding down from a partner or senior leadership role, who still wants something commercially interesting to get their teeth into without carrying a full-time load.
What it won't suit is someone taking part-time work while quietly hunting for something full-time. The family wants consistency and longevity. The role can grow as the office matures and as your circumstances allow, but the immediate focus is on securing someone for 22.5 hours per week, ideally spread across five days and flexible to suit your circumstances.
