Company
This is a growing accounting practice of around 30 staff, conveniently located on Brisbane's CBD fringe, that has deliberately taken a different approach to the traditional public practice model. The leadership team have all come from mid-tier backgrounds and are building a practice that combines the level of service and professionalism you'd expect from a larger firm with the accessibility and personable client experience of a more boutique environment.
The culture is dynamic, collaborative and agile, with a diverse team across different stages of their careers. Leadership is approachable and actively involved in the business, and people are encouraged to contribute ideas, take ownership and have a voice in how the practice evolves. It's an environment where you'll be known, trusted and given the opportunity to make an impact.
Technology is also central to how the business is evolving. The leadership team are actively exploring AI, automation and smarter systems to streamline processes and remove unnecessary administration, with the goal of empowering their people to spend more time doing work that adds value. The focus is on finding better ways of working and giving the team the tools to perform at their best.
It's also an exciting time to be joining the business. The practice has recently acquired another firm and is now well into its next phase of growth. As the business expands, so will the opportunities for people who want to broaden their responsibilities and help shape how the practice operates.
Flexibility is well established, with the opportunity to work from home one day a week once you've settled into the role, together with flexibility around start and finish times.
Position
As a Senior Administration and Client Services qualified, you'll play an instrumental role across both the client experience and internal operations of the practice. Reporting to the Practice Manager, you'll work closely with the Directors, accountants and broader client services team.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Managing day-to-day client enquiries and acting as a trusted point of contact for a sophisticated client base, including high-net-worth individuals and privately owned businesses.
- Building and developing strong client relationships, ensuring a responsive and highly personable level of service.
- Managing ATO and ASIC administration and corporate compliance from end to end, including registrations, annual reviews, company changes, correspondence and lodgements.
- Working closely with Directors and accountants to coordinate client information, documentation, deadlines and ad hoc requirements.
- Managing workflow across the practice, including WIP, outstanding matters and follow-ups.
- Working with the Directors and Practice Manager to improve systems, processes and workflows and optimise what's happening under the hood of the practice.
- Supporting the implementation of process improvements, automation and new technology initiatives.
The role would suit someone who enjoys being across the detail but also wants visibility across the broader practice. You'll have autonomy over your work, exposure to leadership and the opportunity to contribute ideas that genuinely influence how the business operates.
The firm uses modern practice technology, with Xero experience preferred, although the right public practice background and approach to work will be more important than a particular system.
Requirements
To be considered for this position, you will bring:
- Minimum 3 years' experience in a similar administration, client services or practice support role within an Australian public practice accounting firm.
- Strong experience across ATO and ASIC administration and corporate compliance.
- Confident client-facing communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships with clients, accountants and Directors.
- Experience supporting Partners, Directors and accounting teams across a broad range of administrative and operational requirements.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage workflow, WIP and competing priorities.
- A proactive approach, with the confidence to take ownership and identify opportunities to improve the way things are done.
- A collaborative approach and an interest in being part of a growing practice where your contribution will be noticed.
Additional Opportunities
Alongside this position, I am currently engaged on a number of assignments across the accounting and financial services sector, including Client Services, Practice Management, Office Management and broader practice operations roles that are not advertised publicly. If you're considering a move but aren't necessarily sure which opportunity is right, sometimes the easiest place to start is a confidential conversation rather than a formal application. Feel free to reach out directly and we can talk through what's happening in the market and what might make sense for your next step. Nothing you share goes any further, and your details are never presented to a firm without your agreement.
