People & Culture Manager – Strategy, Performance & Employee Relations
Part time/Full-Time - Strategic Role
We are looking for an experienced People & Culture professional who can combine strategic thinking with the confidence and practical experience to manage complex people, performance and employee relations matters.
This is not a traditional HR role and will require a combination of strategic insights as well as hands on when required.
Working closely with the Managing Director, General Manager, senior leadership team and the existing People & Culture function, you will take responsibility for the strategic, performance, employee relations and governance aspects of People & Culture across a diverse and growing business.
You will need to be comfortable moving between the big picture and the detail – from workforce strategy, management reporting and organisational performance through to complex employee relations matters, incentive structures, migration and liaison with external legal advisers.
This is a senior part-time or full-time opportunity for the right candidate who brings sound judgement, commercial thinking and the confidence to provide clear advice when the issues are complex or sensitive.
The Role
People Strategy, Governance & Reporting
- Partner with Executive Management to develop and implement people strategies aligned with the broader objectives of the business.
- Provide meaningful People & Culture reporting to management, identifying workforce trends, organisational risks, capability gaps and areas requiring management attention.
- Contribute to organisational design, workforce planning, succession planning and the development of a high-performance culture.
- Ensure appropriate People & Culture policies, frameworks and governance processes remain contemporary, practical and compliant.
Performance, Reward & Recognition
- Develop and oversee performance management frameworks across the business, including the establishment and documentation of objectives, KPIs and OKRs.
- Support Executive Management in developing and documenting bonus, incentive, reward and recognition programs.
- Assist managers with performance reviews, performance improvement plans and more complex performance management matters.
- Ensure performance and remuneration frameworks are clearly documented,
consistently applied and aligned with company objectives.
Employee & Industrial Relations
- Provide senior advice to management on complex employee relations and industrial relations matters.
- Guide managers through performance, disciplinary, termination and other sensitive employment matters, ensuring appropriate processes and documentation are followed.
- Manage and coordinate external employment and industrial relations lawyers where specialist legal advice or representation is required.
- Assist with any employment-related investigations, claims, actions or disputes.
- Maintain a strong working knowledge of relevant employment legislation, Modern Awards and contemporary Australian workplace relations practices.
Migration & Workforce Mobility
- Coordinate employer-sponsored migration and visa matters for the business.
- Liaise with migration advisers, external lawyers and relevant government departments and agencies regarding sponsorship, visa and workforce mobility matters.
- Maintain appropriate oversight of employer obligations and compliance requirements associated with sponsored employees.
- Support the business in identifying appropriate migration pathways where specialist skills cannot readily be sourced within the Australian labour market.
Executive & Leadership Advisory
- Act as a trusted adviser to the Managing Director, General Manager and senior leaders on strategic and complex people matters.
- Provide pragmatic, commercially considered advice rather than simply identifying HR risks.
- Coach managers in dealing with difficult conversations, performance issues and employee matters confidently, consistently and early.
- Help build management capability so that people leadership is owned across the business rather than being seen solely as the responsibility of People & Culture.
About You
You will ideally bring:
- Significant experience in a senior HR, People & Culture, Employee Relations or HR Business Partner position.
- Strong practical knowledge of Australian employment and industrial relations legislation and Modern Awards.
- Demonstrated experience managing complex performance, disciplinary and termination matters.
- Experience working with external employment lawyers and managing employment-related claims or disputes.
- Experience developing performance frameworks, KPIs, OKRs, remuneration or incentive programs.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to provide meaningful workforce reporting and recommendations to senior management.
- Experience with employer-sponsored migration and visa processes would be highly regarded.
- Excellent written communication and documentation skills.
- The confidence to challenge constructively, influence senior stakeholders and provide clear recommendations.
- A commercial and pragmatic approach to People & Culture.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Human Resources, Employment Relations, Business, Law or a related discipline.
Most importantly, you will have practical and sound judgement. You will know when an issue can be resolved through a conversation, when a manager needs coaching, when a process needs to be formalised and when specialist legal advice is required.
Why Join?
This is an opportunity to take on a genuinely influential People & Culture role that can provide flexible working hours or be full-time.
You will work directly with senior decision-makers and have the opportunity to shape how we approach performance, leadership, employee relations, reward and workforce strategy as the business continues to evolve and grow.
If you are an experienced People & Culture professional who enjoys solving complex problems, influencing leaders and turning people strategy into practical business outcomes, we would like to hear from you.
YOU NEED TO HAVE FULL AUSTRALIAN WORK RIGHTS TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS ROLE.
If you are ready to move forward with your career, we encourage you to apply now by submitting your resume through the advert or via the candidate portal on our website. Online applications are encouraged.
