The Role
EPE is seeking an experienced Quality Management Systems (QMS) Lead to support the development of a specialist scientific capability within the Defence environment. This role will be initially for a 12 month contract (with the possibility to extend).
This is a unique opportunity for an experienced quality professional with strong knowledge of ISO 17025 to take a lead role in establishing and implementing laboratory quality systems supporting scientific examination, forensic workflows and military intelligence exploitation activities.
Reporting to the EPE Project Manager, you will lead the development of the laboratory QMS, coordinate quality and method development activities with a small team of forensic experts, and help ensure the capability achieves and maintains the required accreditation standards.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the development, implementation and ongoing management of the laboratory Quality Management System (QMS).
- Lead and maintain conformance with ISO 17025 across laboratory activities.
- Coordinate a small team of forensic experts supporting method development and QMS development.
- Manage proficiency testing,
internal quality assurance programs and accreditation activities.
- Develop and maintain laboratory SOPs, policies and quality documentation.
- Coordinate internal and external audits and regulatory inspections where required.
- Investigate non-conformances, implement corrective actions and drive continuous improvement.
- Support method validation, equipment calibration, measurement integrity and data integrity processes.
- Provide quality and technical training to laboratory personnel.
- Work collaboratively with EPE teams and stakeholders to deliver project and facility priorities.
- Handle sensitive and classified information in accordance with applicable requirements.
- Participate in training, exercises and capability validation activities.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
Essential qualifications
- Skilled in using Microsoft Office suite of applications
- Must be an Australian citizen capable of obtaining and maintaining a AGSVA Defence Security Clearance, minimum NV1.
Desirable qualifications
- Experience in forensic chemical or biological sciences, microbial forensics, or biosecurity.
- Ability to obtain PV Security Clearance
Personal Attributes
We are looking for someone who combines strong technical knowledge with the ability to take ownership of a quality system and work effectively within a small, specialist team.
You will ideally bring:
- Strong experience and in-depth working knowledge of ISO 17025.
- Strong understanding of method validation,
calibration procedures, measurement uncertainty and quality control.
- Experience managing accreditation processes, audits and quality assurance activities.
- Excellent attention to detail and solid problem solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to deliver training and collaborate with a diverse stakeholder group.
- The ability to work independently while maintaining high levels of accuracy and quality.
- The ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
