Junior GIS Officer – 6 Month Contract

Remote within Australia | Environmental Consultancy | Potential for Extension

GISjobs Australia is recruiting for a Junior GIS Officer to join a Canberra-based environmental consultancy supporting a range of environmental and spatial projects.

This is an excellent prospect for an early-career GIS professional with around 2–3 years' practical experience who is ready to build on their existing skills in a supportive consulting environment.

The initial engagement will be a six-month contract, with the potential for extension.

What you'll be doing
Creating, maintaining and updating spatial datasets
Producing maps and other GIS outputs using ArcGIS Pro
Supporting field data collection workflows using Field Maps, Survey123 and QuickCapture
Cleaning, organising and improving data held in ArcGIS Online and SharePoint
Assisting with spatial analysis and environmental project requirements




Supporting data quality, documentation and general GIS administration
Working remotely with GIS, environmental and project professionals

What we're looking for
Approximately 2–3 years of GIS experience
Positive practical knowledge of ArcGIS Pro
Experience with ArcGIS Online
Exposure to Field Maps, Survey123 and/or QuickCapture
Confidence working with spatial and non-spatial datasets
Good data management and data-cleaning skills
Strong attention to detail
Ability to work effectively in a remote environment
Positive communication skills and a willingness to learn

Nice to have — but not essential
Experience with Python or Power Automate,
an interest in remote sensing, or
a background/exposure to environmental science would all be valuable.
