Company DescriptionDesign the hardware that makes streetlights smartSchréder is a leading provider of global lighting solutions, serving customers across the commercial, industrial and public sectors.
With a strong focus on innovation, technology and sustainability, we are dedicated to delivering comprehensive solutions and exceptional customer service.EdgeMachines is our edge-AI sensing division, and it is where lighting infrastructure becomes intelligent.
We build compact, low-power sensors that turn ordinary streetlights into a privacy-first, real-time data network.
Mounted on infrastructure cities already own, our sensors read traffic, parking, air quality, noise and crowd movement, and process every bit of it directly on the device, so raw data never leaves the street.
This is smart-city sensing without the bandwidth, the cost or the privacy trade-offs, already deployed in cities across Europe, Australia and New Zealand. We are looking for a Senior Electronics Engineer to help shape the next generation of these outdoor edge-AI products, from early concept through to production.Job DescriptionThis is a broad, hands-on senior role.
You will take ownership of the electronics across architecture, schematic and PCB design, RF and cellular connectivity, sensor integration, power systems, thermal performance and long-term reliability, for products that live outdoors on streetlights in demanding conditions.
The role deliberately extends beyond the PCB into the practical engineering that gets a product built well: test fixtures, production software, validation methods and manufacturing processes. You will have significant influence over product architecture, engineering standards, design-for-manufacture, and the reliability of hardware deployed at scale in the field. It will suit an engineer who enjoys working across disciplines: reviewing a complex design one day, debugging hardware in the lab the next, working through enclosure and thermal trade-offs with mechanical engineers,

and resolving issues on the production line. What you will doOwn schematic capture, PCB layout, component selection, design reviews and hardware release across digital, mixed-signal, power and RF sections, balancing cost, robustness, DFM and DFTBring up and debug complex embedded hardware using structured measurement and root-cause analysisDesign and validate high-speed interfaces, clocks, memory, cameras and other signal-integrity-sensitive circuitsDrive EMC pre-compliance and formal compliance activities, using test results to guide practical design improvementsAdvance cellular and wireless performance through antenna tuning, placement, matching, grounding, shielding and enclosure-aware RF designIntegrate camera, microphone, environmental and radar sensors, and validate their electrical and system-level performanceDevelop power supplies, protection, low-power behaviour and thermal performance for reliable outdoor operationUse CAD and 3D printing to develop enclosures, mounts, seals, prototypes, assembly aids and test jigsManage component lifecycle, availability, alternates and obsolescence riskBuild factory fixtures and automated workflows for programming, functional test, calibration, RF checks, traceability and reportingWrite practical Python or C/C++ tools for test automation, DFM and engineering analysisPartner directly with suppliers and manufacturers on production support, yield optimisation and engineering change controlQualificationsStrong electronics product-development experience spanning prototype, verification and productionAdvanced schematic capture and PCB layout capability,

including RF-aware and mixed-signal designHands-on EMC debugging and compliance experience, and practical antenna or cellular modem integration experienceConfidence with oscilloscopes, spectrum analysers, VNAs, logic analysers and electronic loadsPractical mechanical design skills, and enough software ability to automate engineering and manufacturing tasksA methodical, ownership-driven approach and the ability to collaborate across software, hardware and manufacturingBeneficialConnectivity and RF: LTE-M / NB-IoT, LoRaWAN, Wi-SUN, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or GNSSInterfaces, firmware and high-speed design: USB, camera MIPI CSI buses, digital audio, embedded firmware, or high-speed digital signal designStandards and compliance: RCM / CE / FCC / RED, or Zhaga Book 18 / D4iOutdoor products and manufacturing: IP-rated or outdoor products, PCBA production, or yield improvementWhy joinGenuine ownership from concept through to field deployment, not a slice of someone else's designA complete, real-world product spanning outdoor electronics, embedded Linux, edge AI, wireless connectivity, cloud services and manufacturingHardware you design, deployed on lighting infrastructure in cities worldwide through Schréder's global reachThe autonomy and pace of a small, practical engineering team, with the backing and stability of a global leaderHybrid working, based in Sydney If you want to own real hardware end to end and see it deployed at scale, we would like to hear from you.
