Calibration Officer – Federal Government
n
Melbourne | APS5 | 3-Year Temporary Assignment | $***** – $***** per hour + super
n
We are seeking an experienced Calibration Officer to join a Federal Government Department and support a significant national Automatic Weather Station (AWS) Infrastructure Upgrade Project.
n
This is an exciting chance to contribute to a large-scale project involving the modernisation of more than 750 weather monitoring sites across Australia and the Pacific, supporting the reliability and accuracy of critical environmental observation infrastructure.
n
About the Role
n
Reporting directly to the Manager, Standards & Metrology Laboratory, you will be responsible for the calibration, acceptance testing, verification and maintenance of a diverse range of electronic, electrical, mechanical, meteorological and hydrological instrumentation.
n
You will work within a specialist laboratory environment and provide technical support to project and operational teams, helping ensure instrumentation is accurate, reliable, fit for purpose and compliant with required standards.
n
Key Responsibilities
n
n
Coordinate and undertake the calibration, testing and maintenance of laboratory and field equipment.
n
Schedule equipment calibrations in collaboration with Project Managers, metrology specialists, inventory teams and other technical staff.
n
Support the assessment and evaluation of new instrumentation and equipment.
n
Collect statistics, undertake data analysis and investigate operational issues relating to instrumentation.
n
Prepare and maintain technical reports, procedures, work instructions and documentation.
n
Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of calibration and testing practices.
n
Support quality management processes and compliance with ISO **** and ISO ***** standards.
n
Provide technical advice to project and operational staff.
n
Assist with the design, testing and documentation of computer programs that support scientific and operational activities.
n
Ensure all work is undertaken in accordance with relevant health, safety, quality and departmental requirements.

About You
n
n
Demonstrated practical experience in calibration, measurement, traceability and uncertainty.
n
Experience working within a calibration, metrology or standards laboratory.
n
Strong practical knowledge of instrumentation and measurement.
n
Experience handling and managing large volumes of instruments and equipment with a high degree of accuracy.
n
Experience with meteorological, hydrological, environmental or field monitoring equipment would be highly regarded.
n
Strong Microsoft Excel and Microsoft 365 skills.
n
An understanding of land, marine and/or atmospheric environments and the challenges associated with field-based monitoring equipment.
n
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills,
with the ability to investigate technical issues and interpret data.
n
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
n
A strong commitment to quality, accuracy, documented procedures and achieving outcomes within agreed timeframes.

Working Arrangements: Predominantly office/laboratory based, with flexible working arrangements available subject to operational requirements. Due to the need to access specialist laboratory equipment, work-from-home opportunities are very limited.
