Job Description
No two days are the same in the business section of The West Australian and The Nightly. As a reporter you'll support the Digital Editor and National News Director (Business) guide business and finance content direction for both websites and help to promote content via external channels.
n
To thrive in this role you must have excellentwriting and communication skills, sound news judgment and a keen attention to detail, combined with a strong sense of urgency, an ability tomulti-task, an interest in (or desire to learn quickly) thebusiness and financesectors, as well as a thorough grasp of online content.

Key responsibilities:
n
n
Source, write, and publish original business and/or finance stories for the website.
n
Write and edit content, including headlines, captions, and embedded media.
n
Edit content to ensure maximum potential through use of images and infographics.
n
Write and edit newsletters, newsletter content and stories
n
Utilise social media for story discovery, promotion and research.
n
Create social media assets to promote business and finance content
n
Use initiative to identify emerging business and financial trends to create digital content
n
Apply news judgment and use analytical tools to maximise story visibility.
n
Conduct professional and thorough interviews.
n
Maintain awareness of legal and ethical issues in reporting.
n
Represent the company professionally and courteously in all interactions.
n
Continuously upskill and stay updated with technology and digital trends.
n
Work effectively in a cooperative, fast-paced, deadline-driven setting.
n

What you bring:
n
n
A journalism degree and/or experience working within the media industry OR a financial background with an interest in media/storytelling
n
A strong work ethic and a healthy level of initiative
n
An interest in, or desire to learn about, finance and business
n
A high level of literacy and attention to detail
n
Valuable interview and communication skills
n
The ability to work autonomously under high pressure.
n
Flexibility in a seven-day newsroom, including occasional weekends, and the ability to work later in the day.
