This role is paid under the Social, Community, Home Care & Disability Services Award ****- Level 4:1 $***** p/h

The Opportunity:
n
The Intake Officer is responsible for the provision of quality and consistent service to the Samaritans Youth Specialist Homelessness Services (SHS) Team and administration support to the SHS team.
n
n
Maintain a current knowledge of the Youth Homelessness in the Hunter Region and the services that SHS relates to
n
Provide an initial crisis response (including intake, information and referral) together with advocating for all individuals regardless of the stage of homelessness they are faced with
n
Provide current sector wide information to young people, their significant others, families and other service providers in Newcastle and the Lower Hunter including "hubs" in Maitland, Cessnock and Dungog LGA's
n
Be responsive to those contacting the service ensuring they are receiving information that clearly outlines the relevant pathways to reflect the differing needs of the young person
n
Provide practical and appropriate emotional support to young people who may come from diverse backgrounds and experience
n
Portray a positive image of Samaritans
n
Develop and implementation of more efficient structures, procedures and processes to support delivery of quality service
n
Work closely with SHS Team Leader to ensure the provision of quality services to external and internal customers
n

Essential Qualifications
n
n
Certificate III in Business Administration or relevant experience
n
Certificate III in Community Services or relevant experience
n
A current Working with Children check (with clearance to work with children)
n
National Police Check (Newcastle Anglican will consider the relevance of any reported outcomes).
n
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
n
Experience in intake & assessment processes
n
Understanding of, and ability to implement Trauma Informed Practices.
n
Ability to build and maintain successful partnerships with other services.
n
Understanding of Child Protection policy and procedures.
n
Excellent organisational skills and experience managing a complex range of activities
n
Demonstrated experience using word, excel and access programs
n
Strong attention to detail
n
Understanding and practical application of confidentiality principles
n
Demonstrated understanding of WHS responsibilities.
n
Ability to show initiative and work independently.
n
Experience working with databases
n
