In this role, you'll:
Join the Freight and Rail Policy team as a Senior Policy Officer covering multi-modal freight (rail, ports and roads) and rail passenger policy in the Safety, Policy, Environment and Regulation division at Transport for New South Wales.
The team's key priorities include implementing the Freight Policy Reform Program, changes to the Port and Maritime Administration Act and Rail Access Reform.
The team leads policy and reform initiatives that support key NSW Government priorities including decarbonisation, transport mode shift and zero road trauma through legislative, regulatory and strategic policy reform.
You will develop evidence-based policy, research complex issues, prepare clear advice, and drive legislative initiatives in partnership with internal teams, government agencies, and industry stakeholders.
Common tasks include preparing briefings, ministerial advice, meeting minutes and correspondence.
Working with subject matter experts and internal and external stakeholders, you will develop practical policy solutions that inform government decision making.
You will also present clear advice and contribute to improved outcomes for customers and communities in a fast-paced and complex policy environment.

You have strong analytical and critical thinking skills,
with demonstrated experience developing high-quality, evidence-based policy advice.
You possess exceptional written communication skills, with the ability to distil complex information into clear, persuasive and accessible content for a variety of audiences.
You have strong verbal communication skills with the ability to confidently engage, influence and build relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
You have a proven ability to manage competing priorities and deliver in a fast-paced environment.
You are self-driven and collaborative, with a genuine commitment to improving the outcomes for communities.
Work location
This role must be based from the advertised location.
The Freight and Rail Policy team generally attends 231 Elizabeth Street from Tuesday to Thursday.
