Period of Appointment Senior Executive Appointment for up to 5 years Hours per fortnight ***** hours per fortnight - versatile options available.
Duties Lead the development, implementation, evaluation and review of policies, programs and priorities to ensure alignment with Government strategic objectives and outcomes.
Provide high-level strategic advice to the Minister for Local Government on significant issues affecting the Tasmanian community and issues that impact on the Government meeting its agenda.
Exercise the independent statutory functions of Director of Local Government under the Local Government Act ****.
Direct the overall performance of the Office of Local Government by setting expectations, performance goals and standards and measures to deliver high quality, well researched and constructed policy propositions and outcomes.
Ensure effective administration of the relevant provisions of the Local Government Act **** and other legislation administered by the Office.
Oversee initiatives that promote leading practice, capability development and continuous improvement across the local government sector.
Represent Department in high-level negotiations, consultations and forums,
maintaining effective relationships with local government, government agencies, community organisations and other key stakeholders.
Lead, develop and support staff through effective performance management, workforce development and resource planning to deliver high-quality outcomes within agreed timeframes and budgets.
Lead the initiation and implementation of relevant policies and priorities to achieve key strategic objectives and foster collaboration and strategic thinking across government.
Essential Requirements May not be a local government councillor, as defined by the Local Government Act ****, at the time of commencing employment in the Office of Local Government and for the duration that employment is held.
Desirable Requirements A degree or other tertiary qualification or demonstration of an equivalent level of skill.
