About Us Yukana is an independently owned, not-for-profit retirement village and aged care provider in Toowoomba, offering retirement living and care apartments, including dementia care and palliative care services.
We are focused on continuing to improve the quality of hospitality and dining provided to our residents and are building a culinary team committed to delivering high-quality meals in a caring and professional environment.
You will work alongside and be supported by our Head Chef and Sous Chef as part of the wider kitchen team.
About the Role We are seeking an experienced Cook to join our culinary team on a full-time basis.
The role involves preparing and cooking meals for residents in accordance with established menus, recipes, dietary requirements and food safety standards.
The successful applicant will work across different areas of the kitchen and contribute to the consistent preparation and delivery of high-quality meals across daily meal services and functions.
Responsibilities may include: Preparing and cooking a variety of meals in accordance with established menus and recipes.
Preparing ingredients for cooking, including washing, cutting, measuring and portioning food.
Cooking and presenting meals to required quality and presentation standards.
Preparing texture-modified meals and meals for residents with specific dietary requirements.
Monitoring the quality of food during preparation and cooking.
Portioning meals and assisting with plating and presentation.
Using kitchen equipment safely and appropriately in the preparation and cooking of food.
Assisting with the preparation of meals for functions and higher-volume services.




Monitoring food supplies and assisting with stock rotation and storage of ingredients.
Ensuring food is handled, prepared and stored in accordance with food safety and hygiene requirements.
Maintaining a clean, safe and organised kitchen and food preparation area.
Working collaboratively with the Head Chef, Sous Chef and other kitchen team members to ensure meals are prepared and served efficiently.
Yukana's kitchen operates seven days per week, from breakfast through to dinner.
The successful applicant will need to be available to work a flexible roster, including early starts, evenings, weekends and public holidays.
Skills and Qualifications We are looking for someone who takes pride in preparing good-quality food and enjoys working as part of a team.
Applicants should have: Certificate III or IV in Commercial Cookery, or an equivalent relevant qualification.
Relevant experience working as a Cook in a commercial kitchen environment.
Sound food preparation and cooking skills.
Ability to prepare meals consistently in accordance with recipes and established standards.
Knowledge of food safety, hygiene and safe food-handling requirements.
Ability to work effectively in a busy kitchen environment.
Experience with functions and high-volume cooking would be advantageous.
Experience preparing texture-modified meals or meals for special dietary requirements would also be advantageous.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a kitchen team.
Requirements Relevant Commercial Cookery qualification.
Ability to work a flexible roster, including early mornings, evenings, weekends and public holidays.
Ability to obtain any relevant police or other clearances required to work within an aged care environment.
