Set on the banks of the Maribyrnong River, Anglers Tavern is a high-volume, high-energy venue in Melbourne's Inner West. With a strong reputation for great food, functions, events and busy year-round trade, we're looking for an experienced Sous Chef to join the kitchen leadership team. This is an opportunity to work alongside an experienced Head Chef, lead a talented kitchen team and play a key role in delivering a high-quality food offering across busy services, functions and peak trading periods.
Opportunity As Sous Chef
You'll be a key part of the kitchen leadership team, supporting the Head Chef across the day-to-day operation while taking ownership of service and the team when required. You'll help drive food quality, consistency and kitchen standards while creating a positive, accountable and high-performing team environment.
What you'll be responsible for:
Supporting the Head Chef with the day-to-day kitchen operation
Leading the kitchen team during busy services
Ensuring food quality, consistency and presentation are maintained
Assisting with ordering, stock control, food costs and minimising wastage
Supporting rostering and effective labour management
Training, mentoring and developing junior chefs
Maintaining high standards across busy service periods and functions
Ensuring food safety, hygiene and kitchen compliance standards are met
Assisting with menu execution and seasonal menu changes
Stepping up and taking ownership of the kitchen in the Head Chef's absence
Helping create a positive, respectful and accountable kitchen culture
About You
We're looking for a passionate and hands-on Sous Chef who thrives in a fast-paced, high-volume environment and enjoys being part of a strong kitchen leadership team. You'll bring:

Previous Sous Chef or robust Senior CDP experience in a high-volume venue
Experience leading a kitchen team during busy service
Strong knowledge of food preparation,
cooking and kitchen operations
Good understanding of food costs, stock control and wastage
Excellent organisation and communication skills
A hands on approach and passion for quality food
Experience working across functions and high-volume trading periods
The ability to remain calm, organised and solutions-focused under pressure
