Champion Bay Senior High School (CBSHS) is the largest Independent Public School in the Midwest region of Western Australia. The Location and Community
The City of Greater Geraldton (CGG) is one of 9 regions of WA and has much to offer in terms of sport, culture and tourism. With a population of approximately 40,000, the CGG covers an area of approximately 472,000 square kilometres and includes the towns of Mullewa and Walkaway. Apart from the significant sporting and cultural activities on offer, Geraldton itself is renowned for its quality lifestyle. Geraldton is the centre of the WA rock lobster industry along with the productive agricultural region that extends to the north, south and east of the city. An important part of the town is the Geraldton Port Authority which is responsible for moving a significant variety of produce such as grain, mineral sands, iron ore and other goods. The Role
As a member of the School Leadership Team, you would contribute to the implementation of the school's Business Plan through participative decision making whilst promoting the school's vision and strategic directions. It will be highly desirable for the successful applicant to have the ability to lead change,



supported by their capacity to use evidence-based data to inform their decision making to implement innovation within the English learning area.
The Head of Learning Area (HOLA) - English should possess a thorough understanding of the Western Australian Curriculum and Senior Secondary Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) Courses. It will be highly desirable for you to haveexperience in the planning, development, and delivery of English Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) courses. The school has a selective Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) program drawing students from across the region, and for English this requires a rigorous extension program that is intellectually challenging and focused on academic writing and creativity.
Youwould work as part of a collegiate team and be solutions focussed with strong interpersonal and communication skills.As HOLA - English, you will continually drive improvement by providing proactive leadership that is collaborative, inspiring and supportive. The successful applicant would lead flexible and adaptive teachers who will apply differentiated instruction and explicit teaching across all year levels. The successful applicant would also work closely with the Program Coordinator - Literacy to implement targeted strategies that support student success in literacy intervention, OLNA and Foundation classes. The role will have a robust focus on supporting reading and writing fluency and assisting teachers to embed effective literacy strategies within teaching programs.
By leading a professional learning community, the HOLA - English would ensure that English teachers use the Whole School Instructional Framework and develop consistent instructional practices that optimise student learning and engagement.Thesuccessful applicant will lead reflective performance development discussions with staff, based on a comprehensive knowledge of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers. This may be through coaching, developing an ethos of teacher self-reflection, feedback, data analysis and a review of summative and formative assessment
