This Senior Advisor, Employee Relations role is an opportunity to contribute to a high-performing workplace by providing expert advice and support on a broad range of employee and industrial relations in People and Culture, the role sits within the Employee Relations Centre of Expertise team and supports the department across complex workplace matters. The team works closely with managers and staff to provide best practice advice and ensure people-related activities align with service delivery, performance and business renewal priorities.In this role, the successful applicant will help the department navigate workplace issues with confidence, consistency and care. They will provide high-level advice, undertake research and analysis, prepare quality written materials and contribute to policies and strategies that support effective employee and industrial relations practice.
What this role will be doing
The role is responsible for providing industrial and employee relations advice and assistance across the department, including:
implementing effective industrial and employee relations strategies across the department
providing high-level advice to management and staff on matters such as organisational change, discipline, performance management, conflict resolution, industrial relations and the department's employment framework
interpreting and advising on industrial instruments and policy, with a particular emphasis on public sector legislation, directives, policies, awards and enterprise agreements
preparing high-level correspondence,



including submissions, briefing notes, ministerial responses and information papers
conducting research into industrial relations issues to assess applicability, cost impacts and broader departmental and whole-of-government implications, and to develop recommendations
developing and implementing human resources policies that support effective industrial and employee relations practices
What the work can look like
No week is the same in this role. Depending on business needs, the successful applicant may:
provide advice to resolve a complex workplace issue
support an organisational change initiative or provide advice on a discipline process
represent the department in a consultative committee
represent the department before the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission
conduct research and analysis on an industrial relations issue
interpret an award, enterprise agreement, legislation, directive or policy
review a workforce policy
deliver guidance and education to improve understanding and application of industrial relations frameworks across the department
Mandatory Qualifications
There are no mandatory qualifications for this role. Tertiary qualifications in human resources or employee and industrial relations, and/or knowledge and experience in employee and industrial relations, will be highly regarded.
