About the role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated individual looking to start a apprenticeship. We are also seeking a qualified Chef to join Bombora Seafood Restaurant in Wollongong, NSW. This is a fantastic opportunity to launch your culinary career with a respected hospitality organisation. As an Apprentice Chef, you will work full-time learning the fundamentals of professional cooking whilst gaining hands-on experience in a dynamic kitchen environment. This role is integral to developing the next generation of skilled culinary professionals and will provide you with a structured apprenticeship combining on-the-job training with formal education.

Pay per hour:

1st Year Apprentice Chef (16yrs) $16.20 base with penalty rates on weekends up to $24.30

Qualified Chef $29.45 base with penalty rates on weekends up to $44.18

What you'll be doing

1. Assisting senior kitchen staff in the preparation and cooking of meals according to established recipes and quality standards

2. Learning and practising fundamental knife skills, cooking techniques and food safety procedures

3. Preparing ingredients including washing, peeling, chopping and portioning under supervision

4. Operating kitchen equipment safely and maintaining cleanliness of work stations and cooking areas

5. Supporting the kitchen team during service and maintaining efficiency during peak periods

6. Following food safety and hygiene protocols to meet industry standards and regulations

7. Contributing to inventory management and assisting with stock rotation and ordering

8. Receiving feedback from experienced chefs and continuously developing your culinary skills

9. Working collaboratively with the kitchen team to ensure smooth service and customer satisfaction

What we're looking for

1. A genuine passion for cooking and the culinary arts with a willingness to learn

2. Strong work ethic and commitment to completing a formal apprenticeship programme

3. Ability to follow instructions carefully and work safely in a fast-paced kitchen environment

4.



Good physical stamina and the ability to stand for extended periods and work in warm conditions

5. Excellent attention to detail, particularly regarding food preparation and presentation

6. Strong teamwork and communication skills with a positive attitude

7. Reliable, punctual and professional approach to work

8. Relevant Year 10 or equivalent qualification desirable

9. A genuine interest in food quality, flavour and culinary innovation

10. Flexibility with shift patterns including early starts, late finishes and weekend work
