Set on the banks of the Maribyrnong River, Anglers Tavern is a high-volume, high-energy venue in Melbourne’s Inner West. With a strong reputation for great food, functions, events and busy year-round trade, we’re looking for an experienced Sous Chef to join the kitchen leadership team. This is an opportunity to work alongside an experienced Head Chef, lead a talented kitchen team and play a key role in delivering a high-quality food offering across busy services, functions and peak trading periods.
Opportunity As Sous Chef
You’ll be a key part of the kitchen leadership team, supporting the Head Chef across the day-to-day operation while taking ownership of service and the team when required. You’ll help drive food quality, consistency and kitchen standards while creating a positive, accountable and high-performing team environment.
What you’ll be responsible for:
- Supporting the Head Chef with the day-to-day kitchen operation
- Leading the kitchen team during busy services
- Ensuring food quality, consistency and presentation are maintained
- Assisting with ordering, stock control, food costs and minimising wastage
- Supporting rostering and effective labour management
- Training, mentoring and developing junior chefs
- Maintaining high standards across busy service periods and functions
- Ensuring food safety, hygiene and kitchen compliance standards are met
- Assisting with menu execution and seasonal menu changes
- Stepping up and taking ownership of the kitchen in the Head Chef’s absence
- Helping create a positive, respectful and accountable kitchen culture
About You
We’re looking for a passionate and hands-on Sous Chef who thrives in a fast-paced, high-volume environment and enjoys being part of a strong kitchen leadership team. You’ll bring:

- Previous Sous Chef or strong Senior CDP experience in a high-volume venue
- Experience leading a kitchen team during busy service
- Robust knowledge of food preparation,
cooking and kitchen operations
- Good understanding of food costs, stock control and wastage
- Excellent organisation and communication skills
- A hands on approach and passion for quality food
- Experience working across functions and high-volume trading periods
- The ability to remain calm, organised and solutions-focused under pressure
