As a Clinical Nurse Consultant - Anaesthetics & PACU, you will provide expert clinical leadership within our Perioperative Services team, supporting excellence in anaesthetic nursing and post-anaesthesia care. Working closely with the Clinical Nurse Manager, you'll play a key role in developing staff capability, driving quality improvement initiatives and promoting evidence-based clinical practice across Anaesthetics and PACU services. Your part in our St Andrews War Memorial Hospital team St Andrew's War Memorial Hospital is seeking an experienced perioperative clinician to provide expert clinical leadership and support across our Anaesthetics and PACU services. As a senior clinical resource, you'll support clinicians managing complex patients, contribute to workforce capability and help lead initiatives that enhance patient outcomes, safety and quality of care. A diverse role, you will:
- Provide expert clinical leadership and evidence-based support for complex anaesthetic and post-anaesthesia care.
- Act as a clinical escalation point for Anaesthetics and PACU teams.
- Support staff in advanced airway management, haemodynamic monitoring, pain management and recognition of patient deterioration.
- Collaborate with anaesthetists, surgeons and multidisciplinary teams to promote safe and effective patient care.
- Drive education, mentoring, coaching and competency development initiatives.
- Contribute to clinical audits, accreditation activities, policy reviews and quality improvement projects.
- Support implementation of evidence-based practice and emerging technologies across perioperative services.
- Facilitate safe patient flow, escalation and continuity of care across operating theatres, PACU, ICU, wards and Day Surgery.
- Promote a culture of safety, clinical excellence and continuous learning.
What makes a difference for us?
You'll present with:
- Substantial contemporary clinical experience within Anaesthetics and Post Anaesthesia Care.
- Demonstrated advanced clinical assessment,
critical thinking and decision-making skills within perioperative care.
- Experience providing clinical leadership, mentorship and support to nursing teams.
- Strong knowledge of clinical governance, risk management, accreditation and quality improvement processes.
- Excellent communication and multidisciplinary collaboration skills.
- Ability to analyse clinical information and translate insights into meaningful service improvements.
- Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse.
- Current Advanced Life Support competency and other relevant credentials required for the role.
- Highly regarded: Postgraduate qualification in Perioperative Nursing, Anaesthetics, PACU, Critical Care or a related specialty.
- Experience leading education programs, simulation training or competency-based learning initiatives.
- Experience in clinical audit, policy development, accreditation preparation or service redesign projects.
- Membership of relevant professional nursing associations.
- Experience supporting implementation of new technologies, clinical innovations or evidence-based practice initiatives.
