Develop embedded firmware for cutting-edge electric hydrofoil technology, working across firmware, electronics and connected systems to help deliver innovative products from the engineering lab to the water.

The Opportunity
n
We are working exclusively with a company who specialise in hydrofoil technology. An exciting opportunity has become available for a Senior Firmware Engineer to take technical ownership of embedded firmware across a portfolio of innovative, connected hardware products. You'll be working at the intersection of software, electronics and real-world product development, developing firmware that directly influences how high-performance hydrofoil products operate, perform and feel on the water. This is a senior engineering role where you'll have the opportunity to solve complex technical problems, influence future product development and work closely with a highly multidisciplinary engineering team.

The Role
n
You'll take ownership of firmware development across embedded devices and systems. The role will span the full product development lifecycle - from detailed software design and implementation through to testing, troubleshooting and real-world validation.
n
Key Responsibilities:
n
n
- Take technical ownership of embedded firmware development across existing and future hydrofoil products.
n
- Design, develop, test, verify and maintain embedded firmware in C/C++.
n
- Develop firmware across flight controllers, receivers, Bluetooth devices, battery systems and other connected embedded systems.
n
- Diagnose and resolve complex firmware, hardware, RF, wireless communication and system-level issues.
n
- Work closely with electronics and hardware engineers to deliver robust software/hardware integration.
n
- Contribute to features across firmware and associated app, production and test tools.
n
- Develop robust unit testing and design‐for‐test approaches to improve firmware quality and reliability.
n
- Manage configuration, compatibility and software versioning, including forward and backward compatibility.
n
- Participate in on‐water and off‐water testing, using real‐world product behaviour to refine performance and reliability.
n
- Contribute to code reviews, technical discussions and GitLab development workflows.
n
- Provide technical guidance and support to other engineers across the firmware development process.
n
- Help establish and maintain software development standards, methodologies and engineering best practices.
n
- Investigate and resolve issues across firmware, hardware, wireless communications and connected systems.
n
- Work collaboratively across Firmware, Electronics, App, Cloud, Product Development and Engineering teams.
n
- Identify opportunities to improve platform stability, maintainability, performance and the overall customer experience.
n
- Contribute to the technical evolution of the product and help strengthen firmware capability across the engineering function.

About You
n
We're looking for a senior firmware engineer who enjoys working on real, physical products and getting into the detail of how software, electronics and hardware come together.
n
You'll ideally have:
n
n
- 5–10+ years' experience in firmware, embedded software or equivalent industry experience.
n
- Strong hands‐on experience developing embedded software in C/C++.
n
- Experience developing firmware for physical, hardware‐based products.
n
- Strong understanding of embedded systems and software/hardware interaction.
n
- Experience with RF, Bluetooth, wireless communications and associated protocols.
n
- Experience with unit testing, verification and design‐for‐test.
n
- Understanding of configuration management and forward/backward compatibility.
n
- Experience working with Git/GitLab and structured software development workflows.
n
- Strong analytical and problem‐solving skills, particularly when troubleshooting complex system‐level issues.
n
- A collaborative approach and the ability to provide technical guidance to other engineers.
n
- A degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.

Desirable Experience:
n
Experience with any of the following will be highly regarded:

- NRF528xx, Atmel ARM or STM32
n
- Flutter/Dart, Python or C#
n
- MIPI DSI
n
- Altium or LTSpice
n
- Digital, analogue, power, RF or battery management systems
n
- Li‐ion battery systems
n
- Connected devices / IoT
n
- Marine or watercraft products
n
- Full product development lifecycle experience
n
