Lab Manager - Cellular Responses to Disease andVaccination

The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity is available for a Lab Managerto join the Cellular Responses to Disease and Vaccination Working Groupat Burnet!

The Working Group is focused on understanding thedevelopment of protective immunity to malaria and other infectious diseases inhumans.

In this role, you will lead general laboratory managementand logistics for a large research team, including the management of coreequipment, staff and student onboarding, training, and ethics and governancerequirements. You will also independently generate data and undertake researchon the human immune response to malaria to inform vaccine development,according to agreed research plans.

You will also:

- Leadlaboratory management and group logistics under the direction of theWorking Group Head.
- Overseelaboratory operations, including procurement of supplies and consumables,equipment maintenance, management and calibration schedules.
- Managespecimen data banks and support staff and student onboarding.
- Supportthe planning, execution and troubleshooting of data generation andanalysis according to agreed research plans.
- PrepareSOPs, safety documentation, project and ethics reports, and contribute toscientific presentations and communication with internal and externalcollaborators.
- Providetraining and indirect supervision to junior staff and students acrossspecific projects and activities.
- Assistthe Working Group Head with budgeting and financial management.

Let's talk about you

The following criteria are essential requirements:

- BSc(Hons) in a relevant field.
- Experiencein laboratory-based biomedical research.
- Technicalskills across a combination of areas such as molecular biology, parasiteculture and immunology.




- Experiencetraining individuals within diverse teams.

The following are preferable/desirable but not essential:

- Experienceworking in a human-focused or malaria-focused research laboratory.
- Experienceworking with international teams in resource-limited settings.
