Sydney Inner West | Regular paid shifts + opportunity to build your own PT client base
Looking for a fitness role with a little more freedom, creativity and heart?
Haven is looking for a brilliant Personal Trainer to join our small, values-led team in Sydney’s Inner West - with a unique hybrid opportunity combining regular casual shifts with the freedom to grow your own PT practice within Haven.
This could be a beautiful fit if you're a great coach who loves people, wants some reliable paid hours and would love the opportunity to build additional income without having to find a gym, create a whole business infrastructure or build a client base completely from scratch.
The opportunity
This is a unique two-pronged opportunity:
1) We’re looking for trainers to take on a regular shift or two, built around our busier studio periods.
Rather than simply teaching one class and heading home, you’ll become part of the Haven community and client journey.
A shift may include a combination of:
- Small group Strength/Fitness classes
- Semi-Private Personal Training - usually up to 3 clients
- 1:1 Intro PT sessions for new Haven clients
- Movement Blueprint/programming sessions
- Client support and connection
- Light studio/admin tasks that help keep our little community humming
And here’s the exciting bit...
2) Alongside your casual role, you'll build your own PT client base and specialised services at Haven as an independent 1:1 trainer.
We bring new people into Haven, give you opportunities to meet and coach them through your regular shifts, and provide a beautiful established studio and community in which to grow.
If you’re entrepreneurial, have a particular coaching niche or have always thought “I’d love to build my own thing, but I don’t want to do absolutely everything myself” - we’d especially love to hear from you.
There may also be opportunities to create workshops, courses,
special sessions and events with us. We genuinely love good ideas.
But the right person matters more than the fanciest CV.
Haven isn’t a conventional gym, and we’re not looking for conventional fitness-industry coaching.
We’re a body-positive, size-inclusive (we don't promote weight/aesthetics goals) and LGBTQ+ friendly movement studio centred around women, non-binary and trans folk, originally created as an alternative for people who often haven’t felt comfortable, represented or safe in mainstream fitness spaces.
There are:
No weigh-ins.
No before-and-after photos.
No “summer bodies”.
No food guilt or earning your dinner.
No hierarchy of fitter, thinner or stronger = better.
We coach the human in front of us.
That means meeting people with warmth and curiosity, offering options rather than judgement, and recognising that the client is the expert in their own lived experience and body. Our job is to collaborate, coach and help them discover movement that works for them.
You’ll work with people across different ages, body sizes, identities, abilities, fitness histories and confidence levels - including plenty of people who never thought they were “gym people”.
You might be our person if you...
- Hold Cert III & IV in Fitness, current First Aid & CPR and appropriate registration/insurance
- Are an excellent, thoughtful Personal Trainer
- Are warm, emotionally intelligent and genuinely good with people
- Are reliable and take ownership of your commitments
- Can confidently coach different bodies, abilities and experience levels
- Use invitational, team-oriented coaching rather than a “trainer knows best” approach
- Are comfortable working completely outside weight-loss and diet-culture messaging
- Care about making fitness more accessible and welcoming
- Enjoy being part of a small team and contributing to the community around you
- Have initiative and ideas - and don't need to be micromanaged
- Have experience as both an employee and as an independant contractor and would be excited to develop your own PT clients, speciality or offering alongside your Haven work
Additional qualifications in Pilates, yoga, boxing, mobility, strength or other movement modalities are very welcome, but not essential.
We particularly encourage applications from people who are underrepresented in mainstream fitness spaces, including trainers of diverse body sizes, ages, genders and cultural backgrounds.
What you’ll get
- Regular casual shifts & covers at an above-award flat rate + super
- An established community and ongoing flow of new clients to connect with
- The opportunity to build additional PT income as an independent trainer
- A beautiful, character-filled Inner West studio
- Systems and infrastructure already in place
- Flexibility and autonomy
- A small, supportive team where your ideas are genuinely welcome
- Opportunities to develop specialised sessions, workshops and events
- A workplace where you don't have to sell weight loss or perform “fitness culture” to be a great trainer
This could suit an experienced trainer looking for a refreshing change, or an excellent newer trainer with maturity, initiative and the right values who wants somewhere supportive to grow.
We’re much more interested in finding the right human than ticking every possible box.
