Central Australian Women’s Legal Service Inc is a community-based legal service dedicated to providing specialist legal assistance to women in Central Australia and the Barkly. We are committed to supporting vulnerable and disadvantaged women through the provision of quality legal advice, representation, and community education. Our organisation operates with a solid commitment to social justice, equality, and empowerment, working collaboratively with local communities to address legal barriers and promote access to justice for all women we serve.
We are seeking an experienced Administration Officer to join our team in Tennant Creek, NT on a full-time basis, however part-time is considered for a one-year contract with the possibility of extension, depending on funding. This is a key position within our organisation, providing essential administrative and office support services that enable our legal team to focus on delivering quality legal services to our clients. The Administration Officer will be responsible for managing day-to-day office operations, maintaining accurate records, coordinating client services, and ensuring our office runs efficiently. This role is fundamental to the smooth functioning of the service and directly contributes to our ability to support women in accessing justice.
Key responsibilities
- Manage office reception, including greeting clients, answering telephone enquiries, and directing visitors appropriately
- Provide administrative support to legal staff, including diary management, scheduling appointments, and coordinating meetings
- Maintain accurate client files and records in compliance with legal practice standards and confidentiality requirements
- Provide non legal support to CAWLS clients, including at court ensuring client safety is prioritised at all times. This may include assisting clients with transport to and from appointments using the work vehicle.
- Facilitate assisted referrals and other services and support, based on the needs of the clients, including assist travel to and from appointments.
- Manage office supplies, equipment, and facilities to ensure the workplace operates effectively
- Collect and enter required data for internal data collection systems ensuring file notes and data entry is completed in a timely manner & provide data reports when requested.
- Provide general administrative support for case management and legal matters as directed
- Assist with community outreach activities and administrative requirements for service delivery
What we’re looking for
- Proven experience working in an administrative or office support role, preferably within a legal, community services, or qualified environment
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and general IT literacy
- Demonstrated experience with records management and maintaining confidentiality
- Professional telephone manner and strong interpersonal skillsAbility to work independently and as part of a team
- Attention to detail and accuracy in all administrative tasks
- Reliable, punctual, and committed to providing quality service
- Knowledge & understanding of the issues women face in seeking access to justice particularly indigenous women and those whose first language is not english.
- Proven ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team: willingness to assist and support others as required and get on with team members including taking direction from legal practitioners.
- Current NT Driver’s Licence, NT Ochre Card & Criminal History Check (or the ability to obtain)
- Demonstrated skill, knowledge & behaviour to work with First Nations people in a culturally respectful way.
