The Glasshouse Technical Officer works collaboratively within the Glasshouse Management Team (GMT) and provides a range of general horticultural support services to scientists at AgriBio enabling research teams to focus on scientific outcomes. Standard tasks performed by the Glasshouse Technical Officer includes daily care and maintenance of plants grown in glasshouses, screenhouses and other controlled environment spaces; lead integrated pest management; maintain agricultural chemicals; maintaining facility hygiene and tidiness; and participation in a weekend roster to provide limited plant care (predominantly hand-watering).
Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications
- Demonstrated practical experience in plant propagation and maintenance, with a general knowledge of plant growth, nutritional requirements and pest and disease identification and control.
- A tertiary qualification in science with experience working with nursery plants in a glasshouse environment is required.
- Chemical application license or experience using agricultural chemicals is required.
This is an ongoing position. The work location for this position is AgriBio, Bundoora.
