Join Our Team as a First Nations Mentor at Saltbush!
Saltbush is seeking a compassionate, culturally aware and motivated Male Mentor to join our Indigenous Skills and Employment Program in Darwin. Working alongside a dedicated team, you'll provide strengths-based mentoring and personalised support that helps participants achieve their goals and build brighter futures.
- Employment Type: Permanent Full-time
- Excellent Remuneration: $75k - $80k + 12% super + salary packaging + 5 weeks annual leave
- Hours: Normal business hours, with flexibility for additional hours as needed
- Travel: Not an inherent requirement of the role; however, occasional travel may be required depending on program needs.
This position is identified for an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person and is intended to constitute a special measure under section 8 (1) of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth), and section 57 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1996 (NT).
This position is only open to male applicants due to a genuine occupational qualification (GOQ) under Section 30 of the Sex Discrimination Act 1984 (Cth) and Section 35 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1992 (NT), as permitted by our contract for the Indigenous Skills and Employment Program to ensure culturally appropriate service delivery.

The Role:As a Mentor within Employment Services at Saltbush, you will play a vital role in empowering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participants to overcome barriers, build confidence and achieve sustainable employment.
The role is designated for a person of Aboriginal heritage to be part of the team that will be working directly for the advancement of local Aboriginal community members.
Using a strengths-based, trauma-informed, and culturally protected approach, you will mentor and coach participants through life and employment challenges, facilitating learning, self-awareness and positive behavioural change.
This role requires an understanding of the multiple and complex employment barriers many people face working with a case load of individuals.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide strengths-based mentoring and coaching to participants.
- Support participants to develop and achieve personal, education and employment goals.
- Build positive relationships that encourage engagement, confidence and resilience.
- Work collaboratively with Trainers, the Course Coordinator and community partners.
- Connect participants with appropriate support services where required.
- Maintain accurate participant records and contribute to program reporting.
- Promote culturally safe, respectful and inclusive practices in all aspects of service delivery.

- This is an Identified Position. Applicants must be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent, with evidence of Aboriginality required prior to employment.
- Demonstrated ability to build trusting relationships and support people using a strengths-based approach.
- Understanding of the barriers experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in education and employment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to maintain accurate records.
- Willingness to complete the Saltbush Mentoring for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Workforce Mentors qualification during probation.
Employment Requirements:
Successful applicants will be required to hold or obtain:
- National Police Clearance (no more than 3 months old)
- Valid NT OCHRE Card
- Current Unrestricted/Open Driver Licence
- Current First Aid Certification
- Confirmation of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage.
