Senior Liability Underwriter

Location: Brisbane OR Sydney
Salary: Up to $150,000 + Super

Our client is a well-established underwriting agency with a strong presence in the Australian market and a focus on complex commercial risks.
This is a great opportunity for an experienced Liability Underwriter to join a high-quality underwriting team, with the opportunity to take ownership of a portfolio and work closely with senior underwriting leadership.
The Role
We're seeking an experienced Liability Underwriter to manage and develop an established portfolio of commercial risks. This role will suit someone with strong technical underwriting capability across broad-form Liability, who is comfortable assessing complex risks and excess liability. You will be working closely with the national head of liability.
The role has a robust technical focus, with exposure to large insurance programs and complex risks across sectors including Construction and Mining.

Key responsibilities will include:

- Managing and underwriting an established Liability portfolio
- Assessing complex risks across broad-form Liability
- Underwriting large and complex insurance programs
- Developing strong broker and market relationships
- Applying sound technical underwriting judgement within delegated authority
- Reviewing risk information, exposures and policy structures
- Working closely with senior underwriting leadership on portfolio performance




- Supporting the continued growth and development of the Liability portfolio
- Maintaining strong underwriting discipline while identifying quality new business opportunities

About You

- Strong Australian Liability product underwriting experience is essential - 3+ years of experience would be highly regarded
- Excess Liability experience would be advantageous
- Experience underwriting large or complex insurance programs
- Construction and/or Mining underwriting experience highly desirable
- Strong technical understanding of Liability products and risk exposures
- Confident dealing with brokers and other market stakeholders
- Sound commercial judgement and ability to manage an underwriting portfolio
- Market-facing experience is beneficial, although this is not a heavily production-focused role
- Ability to work collaboratively with senior underwriting stakeholders
