About the role The AI Installation Supervisor owns the end-to-end deployment of High-Performance Computing (HPC) and AI infrastructure at customer sites. You will make sure the physical installation, integration and quality assurance of complex compute environments are delivered to engineering specification, to industry standards, and to the expectations we set with our customers.
Day to day, you will manage onsite logistics, supervise field staff and subcontractors, verify installation quality, and produce the detailed as-built documentation that supports customer signoff. This is a hands-on role. You will need real data centre infrastructure experience, a firm grasp of installation standards, and the leadership presence to hold a busy site together.
Alongside data centre technology skills, you will be conversant with data centre building management systems, including liquid and air cooling and power management.

What we are looking for
We are looking for someone who has run large, complex installations before and knows what good looks like on a live site.
Experience
- Extensive experience in large-scale data centre, HPC or AI infrastructure deployments, with a deep understanding of installation into existing data centres and into new builds, including commissioning of site facilities such as power and cooling.
- Proven experience leading field teams, subcontractors or technical installation crews.
- Knowledge of AI and HPC specific modular data centres.
- Strong understanding of rack-and-stack procedures, structured cabling including cable management, and power, cooling and grounding standards.
- Familiarity with quality assurance processes and documentation standards.
Skills and capabilities
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, including rack elevations, network maps and cabling diagrams.
- Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage schedules, logistics and task coordination across multiple teams working in parallel.
- Strong knowledge of site health and safety and site access procedures, including managing working practices, schedules and rotas for onsite staff.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for reporting and customer interaction.
- Confidence managing communication with onsite personnel and upward into both customer and WWT management.
- Willingness to travel to customer sites for extended periods during installation phases.
What you will do The scope below describes a full installation lifecycle. You will lead across all of it, working alongside customer teams, engineers, vendors and subcontractors.
1. Planning and design review
- Review project scope, design documents, rack elevations and network diagrams.
- Review onsite floor load bearing and expected equipment load with design teams.
- Attend coordination meetings with project stakeholders, including customer, engineers, vendors and IT workforce teams.
- Provide good practice guidance and contribute, based on experience,
to plan acceleration discussions with project teams.
- Identify regulatory check points for the project team, for example SOC 2 compliance and external audit.
- Highlight and manage site installation risks.
- Create a detailed installation schedule, such as a Gantt chart.
2. Site readiness and logistics
- Conduct and execute the site readiness assessment covering power, cooling, space and access.
- Coordinate delivery logistics with vendors for racks, servers, switches and cabling.
- Ensure proper permits and site access authorisations are in place.
- Specify the specialist lifting equipment required.
3. Receiving and inventory
- Verify the bill of materials against delivered hardware and inspect equipment for damage in transit.
- Tag and inventory each item, including racks, servers, switches and cables.
- Coordinate with the logistics or receiving team on storage and pre-staging.
4. Onsite supervision
- Oversee vendor and subcontractor activities, including rack and stack and cable installation.
- Conduct daily kickoff and safety briefings.
- Maintain an onsite task log and installation tracker.
- Ensure all work is performed in accordance with site safety standards.
5. Installation quality assurance
- Supervise rack positioning, levelling and bolting.
- Confirm installation of servers, switches and PDUs to the correct locations per design.
- Monitor cable management, including labelling, colour coding, bend radius and airflow.
- Validate grounding and bonding according to electrical code and specification.
- Confirm power delivery to each rack and PDU, with voltage, phase and amperage checks.
- Validate network uplinks, port configurations and patching against the network plan.
- Verify liquid cooling performance, management and leak detection.
- Ensure support connectivity is available.
- Ensure network connectivity is in place as required, notably between the AI infrastructure and Day 2 systems, including Building Management Systems, to specification.
6. Testing and validation
- Perform link and port tests using loopback plugs and network tools.
- Capture screenshots and logs evidencing successful switch and server connectivity.
- Review and sign off all installed hardware against design documentation.
- Check compliance with cable standards; rack layout and thermal airflow guidelines (front-to-back); correct PDU installation, mounting, connectivity, EMC and grounding requirements; and correct rack and enclosure installation, including sides, doors, fan trays, power trays and manifolds.
- Document any deviations or field adjustments with justification.
- Coordinate initial system power-up with engineers.
- Monitor temperature, fan speeds and power draw during initial burn-in tests.
- Log and report any failures or anomalies.
7. Documentation and as-built package
- Compile full as-built documentation, covering updated rack elevations and cable maps, final network port maps and IP assignments, front and rear photos of each rack,
serial number lists for servers, switches and PDUs, and installation checklists with QA signoffs.
- Create the customer-facing Installation Completion Report.
- Include all compliance and validation evidence, including logs, screenshots and test results.
8. Customer handover and closeout
- Review the as-built package with the customer onsite or via presentation.
- Address any customer concerns or requests for clarification.
- Obtain formal signoff on installation completion and the QA checklist.
- Provide a contact for post-install support and a clear escalation path.
- Ensure removal of packaging and unused materials.
- Conduct a final site walkthrough with facilities or the customer representative.
- Archive all documentation in the project repository.
- Debrief with internal teams on lessons learned and improvement suggestions.
Why this role matters
AI infrastructure is unforgiving. Power density, liquid cooling and cable discipline all have to be right first time, because the cost of getting them wrong is measured in weeks of customer downtime.
You are the person on site who makes sure the build is right, the evidence is captured, and the customer signs off with confidence.
