The Role
Working under the direction of the Group Commander's Representative (CMR), the APS 6 Work Health and Safety Officer provides specialist WHS advice, assurance and governance support to enhance safety performance and support the safe generation and sustainment of Patrol Boat Group capability. You will lead and assure WHS compliance, undertake risk assessments and investigations, conduct audits and assurance activities, and contribute to the continuous improvement of WHS policies, procedures and management systems.
The role requires strong stakeholder engagement across Command Teams, vessel personnel, contractors and subject matter experts to ensure compliance with WHS legislation, Defence policy and Navy safety requirements. You will provide practical advice on complex safety matters, monitor WHS performance and emerging risks, prepare high-quality briefs and reports, and support governance forums and safety committees. Operating independently and within multidisciplinary teams, you will promote a positive safety culture through coaching, education, collaboration and the application of contemporary WHS best practice in a dynamic maritime environment.

Our Ideal Candidate
- Completion of Cert IV, Diploma or Degree in Work Health and Safety.
- ICAM Lead Investigator Training.
- Extensive experience in Work Health and Safety and/or Environmental Science working with various stakeholders in a maritime and or high-risk environment. This could consist of working in a compliance role with HAZCHEM, Hazardous Materials, Heritage, Fire Compliance or Environment.
- A good working knowledge of contemporary WHS risk assessment tools and applications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication with a high-level ability to effectively engage stakeholders to achieve strategic outcomes.
