There are several opportunities in our ministerial services, parliamentary services, and ministerial liaison and support teams.
What you will do
Senior ministerial and parliamentary officers have a key team leadership role to support the Directors and Assistant Directors to manage day-to-day operational functions of the teams. They provide high-level operational advice and support to the department including the Executive, departmental liaison officers, and ministerial offices. They exercise a degree of autonomy, judgement and initiative to manage competing priorities, support decision-making and ensure the effective delivery of business operations.
The role requires flexibility and responsiveness, including the capacity to meet demanding and often competing deadlines.

Inherent requirements for the role The inherent requirements for this role include demonstrated capability against the APS6 Work level standards and:
- Supporting strategic direction – Supporting shared purpose and direction by linking goals to operational tasks, clearly communicating objectives, setting team goals and anticipating impacts. Demonstrating judgment and common-sense through objective, evidence-based analysis, problem-solving, and promoting work improvements.
- Achieving results – Effectively manage resources by reviewing performance,
leveraging team strengths, negotiating responsibilities, and adapting to changes. Taking responsibility for deliverables monitoring progress, adjusting plans, committing to quality, maintaining documentation, and seeking feedback where appropriate.
- Supporting productive working relationships – Building and nurturing strong stakeholder relationships by supporting and anticipating stakeholder needs, actively listening, valuing diverse perspectives and working styles, and fostering respect and inclusivity. Supporting team development, including providing timely recognition and constructive feedback.
- Displaying personal drive and integrity – Demonstrating professionalism and integrity by following APS and departmental values, providing honest advice, managing risks, and effectively representing the department. Takes responsibility to achieve goals, maintaining resilience under pressure, and committing to self-awareness and continuous personal development
- Communicating with influence - Communicating clearly, verbally and in writing. Actively listening and adapting communication by understanding the audience, appropriately tailoring messages, confirming others’ views, and addressing misunderstandings promptly.
Desirable requirements
Desirable requirements include experience in using relevant information management systems such as the Parliamentary Document Management System (PDMS+) and CabNet+, or the ability to quickly learn use of these systems.

Candidates will be required to demonstrate their willingness to develop their cultural capability as part of the assessment process. As an APS6 you will be expected to:

Eligibility requirements
Employment with the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, Sport and the Arts is subject to conditions prescribed within the Public Service Act 1999 including:
- Citizenship: candidates must be an Australian citizen at the time of submitting your application.
- Health Assessment: The preferred candidate may be required to undergo a medical examination conducted by the department’s preferred medical provider.
- Security Clearance: The successful candidate must be able to obtain and/or maintain a security clearance at Baseline for ministerial and parliamentary positions and Negative Vetting 1 clearance for Cabinet positions, or the ability to obtain this level of clearance. You must be willing to disclose all relevant and required information. You must have lived in Australia, or have a checkable background, for at least the preceding five years for Baseline Vetting clearances. More information on the security clearance vetting process is available on the Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSVA) website.
- Police check: The successful candidate must complete an Australian Federal Police criminal history check.
- Integrity and Performance check: The successful candidate must satisfy the requirements in an Integrity and Performance check which is completed by your most recent employer.
