About the Role The Community Activation Branch brings people together by growing participation, connection, belonging and wellbeing across the Sunshine Coast. Through community events and festivals, sport and recreation programs, active living initiatives and active precincts, the branch plays a key role in creating healthy, connected and thriving communities. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a team that delivers meaningful outcomes for residents while supporting an active and sustainable region.

Reporting to the Manager Community Activation, you will coordinate Council’s regional aquatic activation and water safety initiatives, oversee aquatic and lifeguard service contracts, and promote safe, inclusive participation in and around the water – supporting community wellbeing, active lifestyles and Council’s Strong Community and Resilient Economy outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

- Coordinate and deliver aquatic activation, water safety, drowning prevention and participation initiatives across the Sunshine Coast.
- Develop partnerships with clubs, schools, providers, health services, government agencies and community organisations to increase participation.
- Coordinate and monitor aquatic and lifeguard service contracts, reporting on performance, compliance, budgets, incidents and asset condition.




- Support the activation of aquatic places through community-led programs, projects and events.

About you

- You are passionate about promoting aquatic recreation, water safety and active lifestyles, creating opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to participate and thrive. With demonstrated experience in aquatic, lifeguard or water safety operations, sport and recreation, or community facility services, including contract or service oversight, you bring a strong understanding of service delivery and stakeholder engagement. You excel at building collaborative relationships and working with community groups, service providers and key stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes.
- A proactive and organised professional, you are skilled at managing projects, balancing competing priorities and delivering results in a energetic environment. Your highly developed communication and interpersonal skills enable you to engage effectively with a broad range of stakeholders, resolve issues, prepare high-quality reports and recommendations, and apply sound judgement to non-routine operational and contract matters. Above all, you are customer-focused, committed to continuous improvement and driven by the opportunity to make a lasting impact within the community.

You’ll also need:

- A degree qualification in business management, recreation management, aquatics or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
- A current Positive Blue Card, or the ability to obtain one.
- A current First Aid Certificate.
- A current “C” Class Driver’s Licence.

It would be highly regarded if you have:

- Knowledge of aquatic facility operations, water safety frameworks and relevant Australian standards.
- Experience in local government.
