Cicerello’s Fremantle is seeking a dynamic, confident and enthusiastic Aquarium Technician & Marine Education Assistant to join our team and help care for our world-class aquariums while delivering engaging marine education experiences to school groups, visitors and the general public.

Located in the heart of Fremantle, Cicerello’s is home to Western Australia’s largest private aquarium. Our 12 aquariums contain more than 80,000 litres of water and showcase over 100 species of local marine life, with environments representing both the temperate waters of Fremantle and the tropical waters of northern Western Australia.

This is a unique opportunity for someone with a genuine passion for marine life who enjoys working hands-on with animals, engaging with people and contributing to an exciting marine education program.

About the Role

Working as part of our aquarium and marine education team, you will be responsible for the day-to-day care and maintenance of our aquariums, as well as supporting our Marine Guides with interactive presentations and visitor experiences.

Aquarium Care

Your responsibilities will include

- Performing daily cleaning and routine maintenance of aquariums, tanks and equipment.
- Caring for a diverse range of marine and freshwater species, including feeding and routine health checks.
- Monitoring water quality and maintaining optimal aquarium conditions.
- Identifying abnormalities, health concerns and maintenance issues and responding promptly.
- Understanding the specific requirements and compatibility of a wide variety of fish, coral and invertebrate species.
- Identifying Australian marine species, including fish, coral and invertebrates.
- Maintaining aquarium equipment, plumbing, mechanical systems and operational components.
- Managing aquarium records, stock levels, equipment and supply registers.
- Researching appropriate nutrition, treatments and health-management practices.
- Assisting with general cleaning and maintenance duties throughout the aquarium department.




- Participating in routine diving activities to collect approved marine specimens, where appropriately qualified.
- Ensuring all animal welfare, workplace health and safety requirements are followed.

Marine Education Cicerello’s has delivered its Marine Education Program to school groups for almost two decades. You will play an important role in helping deliver fun, informative and memorable experiences for children, families, tourists and the wider community.

Responsibilities will include

- Supporting interactive marine education presentations.
- Communicating marine and environmental information clearly and appropriately to different age groups.
- Actively engaging with school students, families and the general public.
- Safely handling marine life and providing clear direction to children and visitors.
- Creating an enthusiastic, fun and positive learning environment.
- Assisting Marine Guides during school excursions and public presentations.
- Ensuring all health, safety and visitor-management requirements are followed.

About You We are looking for someone who is passionate about marine life and enjoys combining hands-on animal care with education and public engagement.

The successful applicant will have:

- A genuine passion for marine life, conservation and the aquatic workplace.
- Sound environmental and aquatic knowledge, with a willingness to continue learning.
- Previous aquarium, aquaculture, marine, animal husbandry or similar experience is highly regarded. Applicants with 2+ years of relevant experience are particularly encouraged to apply.
- A keen eye for detail and the ability to recognise animal health or equipment issues quickly.




- Confidence speaking to groups and engaging with people of different ages and backgrounds.
- A genuine enjoyment of working with children and a great sense of fun and adventure.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong reliability and a willingness to assist when unexpected maintenance or animal-care issues arise.
- The ability to work independently while also being a positive and supportive team member.
- A willingness to undertake training and develop specialist aquarium knowledge.

Qualifications & Requirements The following are highly regarded:

- Working with Children Check — required.
- Right to work in Australia — required.
- Ability to commence work at 7:00am.
- Availability to work during school holidays and alternating weekends, including approximately one weekend day per fortnight.
- PADI Open Water Dive certification or equivalent — highly regarded for diving activities.
- First Aid certification — highly regarded.
- Own transport is recommended.
- Relevant aquarium, aquaculture, marine biology, environmental science or animal-care qualifications are advantageous.

- Approximately 3–5 days per week, with flexibility for the right candidate.
- Typical hours of 7:00am–12:00 midday, with some flexibility depending on operational requirements.
