Electoral Commission SA (ECSA) is seeking an experienced finance professional to join our team and contribute to the effective financial management of the agency, in the lead up to the 2027 local government election. The Accountant – Election Budgets will deliver a broad range of financial and accounting services, including forecasting, internal reporting, and budget analysis and management across the agency.
Reporting to the A/Manager Finance, specific key responsibilities include:
- Working with the A/Manager Finance and project managers to prepare project budgets to support election delivery.
- Preparing ECSA’s performance reporting according to established timelines and the relevant legislation, standards and regulations, with a focus on election project budgets.
- Ensuring the proper maintenance of accounting and other records according to statutory and Treasury requirements, and ECSA practices.
- Establishing, monitoring and testing internal controls to maintain general ledger integrity and support sound financial governance.
- Working with the Human Resources team to prepare, manage and report on ECSA’s project salary budgets.
- Actively evaluating ECSA’s financial systems, policies and procedures, and identifying opportunities to strengthen efficiency, accuracy and compliance.
The successful applicant will be degree qualified (Accounting, Economics or Commerce) with previous experience in financial and management accounting.
The ability to identify errors and anomalies in financial data and formulate solutions to correct issues, and previous experience preparing budgets and tax returns are all essential to this role. We encourage applications from individuals with strong attention to detail, excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills and preferably, accounting experience within a state government context.
Special Conditions
- This role is offered on a temporary term up to 30 June

- In order not to compromise the strict neutrality of the Commission, no person who is active in political affairs or intends to carry on this activity may be an employee.
- Employment is dependent upon a Criminal History Check that the Commission finds satisfactory.
- Extensive out of normal working hours duty may be required during election events.
- Some interstate and intrastate travel may be required.

- Applications must be submitted with a report (no more than 2 pages) addressing the following essential requirements:
- An appropriate degree in Accounting, Economics or Commerce.
- High level of attention to detail with the demonstrated ability to identify problems, errors and anomalies in financial data, analyse information and formulate appropriate solutions to correct issues.
- Demonstrated communication and relationship management skills, and ability to liaise with internal and external key stakeholders at all levels.
- Ability to identify and develop solutions to improve financial processes, procedures and systems.
- Experience in providing accurate and timely financial and accounting services, preferably within a state government context.
- Experience in the preparation and monitoring of budgets.
- Experience in financial analysis.
- Experience in cash management reporting and financial modelling.

RemunerationASO6 - $105,747 to $111,854 per annum
