The Opportunity:

Melbar is looking for a passionate, client-oriented and experienced Assistant Accountant to join our supportive and dedicated team on a full-time fixed-term basis.

This role is a maternity leave cover position from 1 Oct 2026 to 21 May 2027.

The Assistant Accountant supports the day-to-day finance operations of Melbar across payroll, accounts payable and receivable, bank reconciliations, general ledger, month-end reporting and statutory reporting. The role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, processing regular payroll and payments, preparing reconciliations and journals, and supporting monthly, quarterly and annual finance reporting requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

- Support day-to-day finance operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and banking activities.

- Perform general ledger and balance sheet reconciliations and support month-end and year-end accounting processes.

- Prepare financial reports, journals and other accounting records as required.

- Assist with statutory reporting and ensure relevant finance activities are completed accurately and on time.





- Maintain accurate financial records and support internal controls and compliance requirements.

- Investigate financial discrepancies and assist with resolving accounting and payment-related issues.

- Support audit preparation, process improvements and other finance activities as required.

- Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to support effective finance operations.

Experience and Skills:

- Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Business or a related discipline.

- Minimum one year of experience in an accounting or finance role.

- Practical experience in payroll, general ledger, accounts payable/receivable and reconciliations.

- Proficiency in MYOB and strong Microsoft Excel skills, including the ability to work confidently with formulas and financial data.

- Sound understanding of month-end accounting processes and Australian financial and statutory reporting requirements.

- Previous experience in the aged care industry is highly regarded.

- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving and time management skills.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

- Bilingual communication skills in English and Chinese (Mandarin) are highly regarded.
