Details: WorkSafe ACT is a fully independent office headed by the Work Health and Safety Commissioner. WorkSafe ACT achieves its objectives through a combination of compliance, enforcement, awareness raising, education, inspection and investigation.
It is responsible for monitoring and enforcing compliance by duty holders in accordance with the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (WHS Act) and associated legislation for dangerous substances, workers’ compensation and Labour Hire Licensing, among others.
We have an exciting temporary vacancy available for a period of up to 12 months for a motivated and highly capable qualified to fill the role of Assistant Director, Data and Strategic Coordination within the Strategy team.
The Strategy team is responsible for identifying, developing and implementing strategic priorities for WorkSafe ACT and brings together expertise in strategy, policy, strategic coordination and data analysis.
As the Assistant Director, you will lead a small team responsible for delivering strategic coordination, intelligence and data-driven insights that support WorkSafe ACT's objectives and regulatory activities. You will provide expert advice to the Senior Leadership Team and inspectors, oversee organisational reporting requirements, and contribute to WorkSafe ACT's position on local and national forums.
The role requires strong analytical capability and experience working with complex datasets, including data from case management systems and other sources, to identify trends, develop insights and support evidence-based decision-making.
You will also work closely with internal and external stakeholders, including other work health and safety regulators, to advance strategic initiatives and improve organisational performance.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership capability, sound judgement, highly developed stakeholder engagement skills, excellent communication skills and experience delivering complex projects, policy work, reporting and strategic outcomes.

Eligibility/ Other Requirements:
- Knowledge of work health and safety, workers’ compensation and labour hire licensing legislation and issues is desirable but not essential.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications related to information technology, computer science, data science or a related field and/or equivalent industry experience are highly desirable.
- Relevant experience in a policy, data or strategic coordination role is highly desirable.
Note:
This is a temporary position available immediately for a period of up to 12 months. Selection may be based on referee reports and written application only. This position will be in a workplace designed for activity-based working (ABW). Under ABW arrangements, officers will not have a designated workstation/desk. A merit pool may be established from this selection process and may be used to fill substantially identical vacancies over the next 12 months.
