Capability & Development Advisor — PC0020 Temporary Full-Time Parental Leave Coverage — 14 months | People & Culture | Corporate Services About About this chance Help shape the employee experience and support meaningful learning pathways across Mackay Regional Council. We are seeking a proactive and people-focused Capability & Development Advisor to join our People & Culture team in a 14-month temporary full-time parental leave coverage opportunity until early January 2028.
This varied role is ideal for someone who enjoys practical program delivery, relationship building and making a visible impact across the organisation. You will support Council-wide capability initiatives including corporate induction, onboarding projects, career expos, education assistance, work experience, vocational education and training activities, and other workforce development programs that help employees build skills, confidence and connection.
What You Will Be Doing
- Facilitate and support corporate induction sessions for new employees.
- Contribute to onboarding and employee experience projects that strengthen how new starters connect with Council.
- Support education assistance, work experience, career expos and early-career pathway activities.
- Advise and assist stakeholders with vocational education and training requirements, including apprenticeships and traineeships.
- Coordinate training, maintain accurate records and support compliance with relevant processes and frameworks.
- Work collaboratively across the organisation to identify learning needs and support practical workforce development outcomes.
About you You will bring strong communication and facilitation skills, sound judgement, and the confidence to engage with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. You will be comfortable juggling competing priorities,
working with limited handover, and quickly building productive working relationships. To be successful in this role, you will bring demonstrated experience in workforce development, capability building, learning and development, human resources, organisational development, or a related field. Experience supporting vocational education and training requirements will be highly regarded, along with strong program coordination, stakeholder engagement, facilitation and continuous improvement skills.

In addition to the above, we also offer the following employee benefits:
- Stream A Salaried Level 3 – 4 Base hourly rate of $46.00 – $50.80. (the level offered will be determined based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience)
- 12% superannuation.
- Choice of 4 or 5 weeks’ annual leave with 17.5% leave loading (pro-rata).
