Town of Walkerville

Walkerville

The Town of Walkerville encompasses the suburbs of Gilberton, Medindie, Vale Park and Walkerville. It is located approximately four kilometres north-east of the city of Adelaide. The Town of Walkerville is the smallest Council in metropolitan Adelaide and covers a land area of 3.5sq km. The Township includes a total of 4,148 rateable properties and is home to more than 8,000 residents.

Following a period of significant change, Council is now looking ahead to the next phase of growth for the Township. With the Walkerville Bowling and the Walkerville Oval open space project and The W: Walkerville Recreation Centre completed, attention has turned firmly to the projects that will follow.

A major attraction to this role is that the Essential Services Commission has assessed the Town of Walkerville as being in a sustainable financial position with projected operating surpluses, supported by continued growth in rate revenue and disciplined control of expenditure as Council funds new and upgraded assets and refocuses on asset renewal and replacement.

Council is now seeking to appoint a Chief Executive Officer to lead the organisation through this program of work under a four-year contract.

The role

Reporting to the Mayor and Council Members, the Chief Executive Officer will lead the administration across strategy, finance, assets, operations, people and community engagement.

Major project delivery is central to the position, including the Sports Club redevelopment, Levi Oval, the streetscape upgrades and works relating to the cemetery. Equally important is what happens after completion.

You will be expected to transition each project into a sustainable ongoing maintenance and asset management position, supported by realistic whole-of-life costings and long term financial planning.

Council is committed to keeping the Township a place where people want to live, work, visit and play. That means a continued focus on asset renewal and maintenance, on beautification projects such as the community garden at The W, and on the streetscapes for which the Town of Walkerville is known.

You will also be asked to strengthen the organisation itself through continuous improvement, improved employee engagement and a culture in which managers are supported, developed and held accountable for their performance.

Above all, the successful candidate will build a single, cohesive team across the Mayor, the Council Members and the administration, and bring stakeholders and employees with them through a period of change and development.

About you

You are an experienced local government leader. You may be a current Chief Executive Officer, or a Manager/ Director looking to step up into your first CEO role. Metropolitan council experience is preferred, and candidates from outside the sector will require demonstrated local government understanding to be considered.
