About the Eye and Ear The Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital (the Eye and Ear) is Australia’s only specialist eye, ear, nose and throat hospital and has been providing care for the senses for more than 160 years. The Eye and Ear operate more than 90 outpatient clinics for the diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of vision and hearing loss, alongside a 24-hour emergency eye and ear, nose and throat service. Each year, we provide care for approximately 160,000 outpatients, 45,000 emergency patients and more than 16,000 inpatients.

About the Role

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and as a key member of the Executive Team, the Chief Medical Officer /Executive Director Medical Servicesprovides strategic and professional leadership for medical services across the Eye and Ear. The role holds a key leadership responsibility within the Clinical Governance framework and acts as a trusted adviser to the CEO, Board, Executive and clinical leaders on complex clinical, skilled, medico-legal and ethical matters.

With executive oversight of Medical Workforce, Medical Education, Research, Quality and Safety, Clinical Improvement, Pharmacy, Health Information Services, Clinical Informatics and Business Intelligence, you will lead clinical governance, patient safety,



medical workforce strategy and organisation-wide improvement. You will champion clinician engagement and leadership, drive contemporary models of care and digital health transformation, and strengthen research and clinical innovation. Working collaboratively across the Eye and Ear and with key health system, academic and research partners, you will play an important role in shaping organisational performance and ensuring safe, high-quality and person-centred care.

About You

You are a highly respected senior medical leader with the clinical credibility, strategic capability and judgement to operate effectively in a complex health service environment.

You are an influential and collaborative leader who can build trusted relationships with clinicians, executives, the Board and external stakeholders. You understand how to engage medical professionals in change and create an environment in which clinical excellence, accountability, innovation and continuous improvement can thrive.

You will have

- Eligibility for full registration with AHPRA as a medical practitioner.
- Relevant postgraduate qualifications in health or management and/or a recognised Specialist Fellowship.
- Demonstrated senior management experience at a comparable level.
- Proven experience developing and delivering strategic, operational and budgetary objectives.
- Demonstrated experience in business and performance planning, implementation and monitoring within a clinical environment.
- A strong record of fostering the highest standards of patient care and developing high-performing teams.
- Significant strategic and clinical leadership experience,



including leading organisational change and service improvement.
- Demonstrated experience implementing organisation-wide clinical change initiatives, including redesigning work practices and service delivery models.
- Strong influencing, consultation, relationship management and conflict-resolution capabilities.
- Sound judgement in complex ethical, clinical and management matters.

Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators (RACMA) is highly desirable, reflecting the significant medical leadership, governance and administration responsibilities of this role. Why Join Us?
