About us

Surgical South provides elective and emergency services for the patients within the Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service. Surgical South is located on 5th Floor D Block, Cairns Hospital and is under the Directorate of Intensive Care, Women's and Peri-operative Services. Surgical South is a 32 bed ward that caters for the specialties of Urology, Plastics and Burns, Colorectal, Gastro-Intestinal, Hepatobiliary, Breast Surgery, and General Surgery.

About your opportunity

In this position you will:

- Demonstrated advanced clinical, problem-solving, care planning and coordination skills, supported by a robust knowledge of contemporary nursing practice, theory and evidence-based care.




- Current comprehensive knowledge and clinical expertise in acute surgical nursing.
- Engage in incident reporting and investigation and conduct and apply quality improvement frameworks and audits and develop risk minimisation strategies/activities to promote safe and/or rectify unsafe practice.
- Provide support, guidance, mentoring, preceptorship, role modelling and promote cooperation and collaborative teamwork with effective use of effective communication and problem solving abilities.
