We are seeking a skilled CNC Machinist to join our Manufacturing team. In this role, you will play a key part in the precision manufacturing process, setting up, programming and operating CNC machinery to produce high-quality components in accordance with engineering specifications.

About the role

- Currently located in Chipping Norton, we are moving to Smeaton Grange in the next 3-4 months

As a CNC Machinist, you will be responsible for the efficient and accurate operation of 3-axis CNC machinery, with a focus on Heidenhain controls. You will work closely with engineers, programmers and other team members to ensure machining processes meet quality, safety and production requirements.

Key responsibilities

- Set up and operate 3-axis CNC machines, including installing tooling, loading workpieces and entering machining parameters and tool offsets

- Create and edit CNC programs using Heidenhain conversational programming

- Select and install appropriate cutting tools for each job

- Machine components to precise dimensions, tolerances and surface finishes in accordance with technical drawings and job instructions

- Conduct in-process quality inspections using precision measuring equipment such as micrometres and callipers

- Identify and troubleshoot machining, tooling, machine and programming issues

- Perform routine CNC machine maintenance, including tool changes, lubrication and cleaning

- Maintain accurate production, tooling, setup and inspection records





- Work collaboratively with engineers, programmers and team members to improve machining processes and achieve production goals

- Follow all workplace health and safety requirements and maintain a strong focus on quality and secure work practices

About you

We're looking for a machinist who takes pride in precision work and wants to help build Tanis into a Centre of excellence.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

- Trade qualification or certification in CNC machining

- Proven experience setting and operating CNC Machining centres. Heidenhain experience is well regarded but not essential - we'll train the right person on our controls

- Confidence reading engineering drawings, including geometric tolerances, and the judgement to stop and ask when something can't be made as drawn

- Strong understanding of CNC machining principles, including tooling selection, feeds and speeds, and machining strategies

- Experience using precision measuring instruments and performing basic mathematical calculations
- The discipline to document your setups so the next machinist can pick up the job cold

- Experience with low-volume, high-mix or one-off work, where every job is different
- A willingness to share what you know and help others get better at it
- An uncompromising approach to safety and quality
